Beauty Contest!!!

Fiat and Alfa have just done very well in an automotive beauty contest run by the French weekly car magazine, Auto Plus...

Subcompacts: Fiat Grande Punto wins first place by a convincing margin over
the 207. Last place was the Nissan Micra, but you didn't need
Auto Plus to point that one out, did you?

Compacts: Alfa 147 is the winner here, just ahead of the Audi A3.

Family Cars: Alfa 159 by a very wide margin over the 407. The Fiat Croma
came in 7th in this lot.

People Carriers: Fiat Idea came in...9th but not last.


No Lancias were mentioned in this contest even if Lancia is "United Against Uglieness". No other Fiat Group cars were mentioned. The Citroen C8 placed 5th in People Carriers and it is a sister to the Fiat Ulysee and the Lancia Phaedra (plus the Peugeot 807), if that's any consolation.

the alfa159 deserves to be in a category all of its own, its easily my favorite new car (not that there's been much competiton over the last few years)

i think the subcompacts class should have been a 'least ugly' contest because there all wrong wrong wrong lately. the grande punto is as big as my bravo, i dread to think how big the new bravo is going to be
unless roads and carparks get bigger very quickly there's going to be trouble ahead, especially when 17 year old girls try to park their new grande bravo 'supermini' near my car and find that it wont fit in the space.

The Grande Punto is 4.03 meters long. My 1983 Alfasud was 3.98 if that tells you anything. The current Polo is about exactly the same size as the original Golf/Rabbit. I suppose the Clio 3 is about the same size as the Renault 11 (introduced in 1983) I used to own some years ago.
