New Fiat 500 1.4 turbo!!!!

Yep, there is going to be a 1400 turbo full Abarth version with Kit. This will be a proper Abarth car, NOT just a kit.
The 1600 turbo engine vauxhall has kept as part of the GM buy out of their agreement. Pity, as Fiat did much development work on it !!
There is great hope for the 500. Estimated launch now is 2008 for the range. This will be a world car, and if its as half as good as it looks, Fiat have a winner!!
The turbo engine will be fitted into other Fiats, namely, Panda and Grande Punto.Cannot wait. About time Fiat had some decent performance models.:)

there's a good reason why it looks like a ford ka, its designed by ford, well ok fiat and ford together. using the panda as a base both fiat and ford will release very very similar cars which they desinged together, fiat will call it the new 500 and ford will call it the 'european ka'. it is going to be very much like the Trepi concept car (because thats what it is), but without all the expensive bits. i'm not hopeful, in fact im cringing already.

im a little worried they will ruin it. The concept photos are perfect!.. the shape of these spy shots is very different imo. looks like they have taken the rear end of a ka (literly) and just put a different front end with different lights.

I really hope it doesnt drive like a KA. Looks very high in the suspention too. hope this is also sorted for release. why oh why couldnt it have been spot on to the concept

500 was designed before the FORD ka!! Fiat is not using the Trepi. They are using the Ford platform modified as its fits the 500 perfectly and keeps costs down. thats all. It looks really cute and the Abarth version ive seen pics of, are really retro aka mini cooper look with beautiful flared arches. cannot wait :)

how can it be a proper Abarth car, the factory shut years ago
Where have you been Dave? Abarth is being resurected by new management's insistance. Thats why Fiat are going racing again, or one reason, and why road versions will have factory involvement like for example the Strada 130 Abarth did. Will do Fiat a world of good to get performance versions in the showroom, and if the Grande punto Abarth rally car continues to win races as it currently is doing, then people will want to buy them!!! :)

Looking at the spy shots the car is heavily disguised, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were trying to make it look like a Ka, when Rover were making cars saw quite a few new models around Brum disguised with Vauxhall 'V' grilles:yuck:its common trick to try and fool the spy photographers

If it corners like my Panda and has that much power....I need to start saving

1400 turbo sounds like its gona be quick!

I may seriously consider one when its launched.....................same impact as the mk1 UT?? :chin:

As toyota say............. BigSmall:

the original 500 came before the ka yes, but the new 500? doubt it a lot.

also they aren't using the ford platform, they're using the panda as a platform. the trepi is a posh panda so they are using the trepi bodyparts and interior layout, but panda is the real platform.

here's a BBC news report from september 2005 if you dont believe me:
Fiat and Ford forge car alliance

Fiat and Ford plan to build a new car on the Panda platform
Italy's Fiat and US giant Ford are to co-operate on producing and developing new small cars.
The deal comes seven months after the end of Fiat's partnership with another major US carmaker, General Motors.

Ford said the plans were for two new vehicles - a new Fiat Cinquecento and a replacement for the Ford Ka.

A Fiat spokesman confirmed that the company planned to work with Ford on a new small car range, using the existing Fiat Panda as a platform.

On Tuesday, Fiat's chief executive Sergio Marchionne said he planned to strike a deal with another car manufacturer by the end of the year, but gave no details at the time.

Cult car

Fiat's brand promotion manager Lapo Elkann told Italy's Radio24: "Fiat and Ford will make small cars together on the Panda platform."

The original Fiat Cinquecento was in production for 20 years until 1977. Four million were produced and have since become cult items.

The Fiat group - which also makes industrial and agricultural machinery - has been struggling with its underperforming car division for a number of years.

Previously loyal Italian consumers have developed more international tastes and the company has seen its market share shrink amid increased competition from foreign rivals such as Renault, Toyota and Peugeot.

Fiat reached a $2bn (£1.1bn) settlement with General Motors in February to end its previous joint venture.

GM wanted an end to a deal which could have forced it to expand its small stake in Fiat to outright ownership.
