turbo timers...

when you park up a turbo car you need to let it idle for a bit to let the turbo slow to a full stop whilst stillgetting fed oil via the engine.
the tuimer keeps the engine running while oyu can switch of and go.
if you turn of with the turbo still spinning then it deprives the turbo off oil.very bad
 
simplified they keep the engine running after you take the key out and lock your doors, by letting the turbo spool down from stupid rpm that its spinning at after uv bin driving. basicly stops you from havin to wait in your car til the turbos spooled down
 
and are, illegal to use on the road in this country i beleive. you are not allowed to leave a car unattended with the engine running.

They are legal in this country.

Basically if you cut the engine straight away the turbo could still be spinning at stupid RPM (I think it's around 50,000 RPM :eek: ) and with no oil now being pumped onto the bearing, the oil remaining there quickly becomes cooked and turns into carbon.
When you then start the car the next time, there's no oil in the turbo just this baked on crud, and that wears the turbocharger significantly. However there's no real need for these timers, just don't cane it for the last few miles of the journey and let it tick over for a couple of minutes when you arrive at your destination. :)

the road vehicles (construction and use) regulations act 1998:

Regulation 98 provides that, except in specified circumstances, the driver of a vehicle must stop the engine when the vehicle is stationary in order to prevent noise. The effect of these Regulations is to amend that provision so as to add the prevention of exhaust emissions as a reason for stopping the engine.

Regulation 107; no person shall leave, or cause or permit to be left, on a road a motor
vehicle which is not attended by a person licensed to drive it unless the engine is stopped
and any parking brake with which the vehicle is required to be equipped is effectively set.

now whilst these 2 do not preclude the fitting of a turbo timer per se, the use of one may be interpreted as such by a local magsistrates as contrary to legislation, if you were summonsed

so just a couple of mins to let it come down to 'normal' rpm. then turn off car will preserve (so to speak) the life of the turbo
 
That's what I've been doing, yes. If I've been absolutely caning it I'll sit in the car for around 5 mins. But normally a couple of mins is fine. Well Actually as my turo is shagged I've not been bothering lately :eek: but when the new turbs go on I'll be doing so.

lol you bad boy.just remember if the turbo blew before you fitted the new one then you could be talking of bits of metal in the induction :eek:
 
My Alarm system has Remote start and Turbo Timer capabilites along with loads of other gadgetery such as Anti Hijack and Remote Shutdown :eek:

With my remote start engine will switch on but ALL doors will remain locked. If someone attempts the break into the car the engine will cut off AND the car will immobilise itself + set off the alarm.

Even if somehow they manage to get into the car when the naughty person releases the handbrake or presses the brake the engine will cut and immobilise + set off the alarm.

To drive the car after a remote start, the doors must be opened via remote and the key must be inserted into the ignition and switched to the on position.

On some alarms you can even add a code which can be entered via presses of the pedals to be able to drive the car.

With my cars alarms turbo timer, when the car is switched off the engine remains running. You can then leave the car and lock it via the remote and the engine will remain running until the preset time of the turbo timer. Once the timer has reached it preset the engine will cut and the car will be immobilised.

During the time the engine is running and the doors have been locked if anyone attempts to enter the car the engine will cut, immobilise and set off the alarm.

In all scenarios, if you are away from the car you will be notified via pager if you are withing range of the vehicle.

If I were incharge I'd say my alarm was CAT Best! :p
 
trance wat make and model alarm do you have. wud be very interested in purchasing 1 for the new car
