I just wanted to see if anyone is thinking about turbo-ing a 1242 16v and would be interested in a set of forged pistons? I have been talking to the guy who made the french 16v turbo cinq and I have made arrangements to have a set made@£600 but for another £50 can have another set made. would i be right in thinking the 16v pistons would fit the 8v block. they should shouldnt they. if so, i'm interested and i can think of two others who might be

They wont fit striaght in because Im having them made slightly oversize to get a bit more cc and because my block is worn slightly. You would require a rebore but I can arrange this cheaper for us all if a few of us did it together or you can have that done yourself. The pistons would probably be even cheaper if more than 2 of us did it. I have a spare 1242 8v block I could get rebored and then we just do a swap if thats any good? It would be really good others had it done too cos it would save us all a fortune compared to having it all done separately.

erm, i know i i'm not 'down' with you guys but given the 8v and 16v are 1242 i'm going to say its the same block, i'm also pretty sure you can fit the 16v head on your block which will make it even better

Yeah it is the same block- the 16v pistons have 4 slight cut outs fot the valves instead of the 8v's 2 but that should not make any difference once in the block.

are they being made to origonal spec, apart from the bore size - ie with regards to the compression ratio the engine will end up running?

I have had a chat with the guy making them and told him I need to reduce the compression ratio as the engine is not turbocharged from the factory and he is going to work out how much dish they need. I just need to provide a standard piston and tell him the standard CR and he will do the rest. He suggested a 0.5mm overbore as this will totaly take out any bore damage and ensure the bores are round not oval and also give a worthwhille cc increase.
