Currently i am driving a 1998 fiat bravo 1.9 jtd, but i have had nothing but problems with it, tho i hav been told im just the unlucky sod who got the rotten apple outa the barrel. well so be it, but i have been presented with a deal on a 5dr fiat stilo dynamic 1.6 16v. Could i have all views (good and Bad)on whether i shud go for this stilo or be patient and wait for another deal on a different car.

Well I've had my 3dr Stilo for 3 months now and love every second I'm behind the wheel.

I had a small problem when I first got the car with the EBD and ABS failing, but this was due to a loose fuse in the engine bay. 10 mins at the dealer and the issue was resolved.

I would recommend a Stilo to anyone..

If i had that sort of money I would get a Renault Megane - you must agree they look amazing! Think this post might get me banned...!

hehe, i feel banned now. If i compare the build quality on my 94 Uno against the build quality of a 94 Clio it is amazing the difference, my Uno costs a third of the cost for a reason. I am not saying I don't love it, i do and I would chose it over a Clio now but because I feel an odd affection towards it and all its faults. However, would you honestly buy a stilo or a beautiful blue Megane? They look like they are going 180mph whilst stood in a car park! I have been brought up on a diet of Renaults and seriously, you can't not buy a Renault because you dislike the French or they don't want our beef! I am not saying a Renault is a BMW or merc but i am saying they offer a really good - and nearly all brand new - range and not stupid prices.

That's if you like the look of the new range, many don't. I have to say I like the stilo a lot but I am led to believe, from here and motoring articles, that they are really poorly made etc. and suffer from numerous problems - do you agree with this?

I better get back to my fix it again uno :) lol

What is with this forum recently? If I wanted to read about someone extolling the virtues of Renault/Ford/Honda I'd go to Renault/Ford/Honda forums!

The Megane looks like it's squating for a poo. It's awful. A 3 door Stilo in Sprint Blue with nice alloys blows any Megane away. The Stilo is a fine car and the build quality is good.

As for comparing the Uno to the Clio, the Uno was replaced by the Punto in 1995, so comparing the Punto to the Clio would be more accurate. The Uno can be likened to the Renault 5, and it compares favourably with this car in terms of build quality and reliability.

Hey Steve C....!
DOn't be like that,
It wouldn't be fun if people didn't have a little bit of friendly discussion about Fiat Vs. other makes. I am saying neither that Fiat is rubbish (i drive one...!) or that Renault are the bees knees, they're not. Don't react in that way, as I say, it is a forum right were discussions are done correct?

Dave is right in what he is saying though, neither did the "people carrier" or the "mini-mpv"....hehe.

If you want to compare a Clio, my Mk2 was redone in 1991 (i think?) and the first Clio came out in 90 (or 91?) so the mk2 can be compared in many ways.

I didn't want to offend you or your liking of Fiats just IMHO and from what I read in the motoring press, I would have a Megane rather than Stilo (although I don't doubt the Stilo isn't also a very nice car)

Sorry if i caused you offence again.

I like the 3 door Megane, but 5 door looks weird. Stilo is a good looking car, but i'm not sure i'd want it powered by a 1.2 litre engine, sounds slow :)

Another day...another problem...

me too, that would definately worry me. However good the 1.2 is and however "ok" you can make it drive, you're powering a 1200kg (i think this is right) car with a 1.2 litre engine - i don't know of anyone ever trying this before. POwer to weight ratio must be very poor and this would mainly frighten me for the future. These engines can't last very long as they are always going to working at such a high load. Higher revs and high loads aren't good for little engines and it could all end in problems for the 1.2?

It's not a case of casuing offence. I'm not that easily offended. The original post was about changing from a Bravo to a Stilo. Given that this is a Fiat forum and this is in the Fiat related section you had no business bringing the Megane into it. Basically this guy wants opinions on a Fiat and you're trying to persuade him to buy French. I make no apologies for finding this unacceptable. There's too much of this kind of thing here IMO.

As for comparing the Uno and Clio. They may have been on sale together for 4 years, but the Uno is basically a 1979/1980 design, released in 1983. It is of the same era as the Renault 5.

Ok ok boys settle down! thanks for you help, now im more confussed lol! i like th the megane too but unfortunatly outa my price range. tell you my situation im 20 coming 21 in may, im looking to exchange my bravo in the fait garage for somthing else. i ve been presented with the 5dr stilo option as the blasted 3drs are more expensive, the 5dr stilos which are available are all 2002 (i think) and 1.6 or 1.8 in the colours black, sassi grey, jet blue and navey blue. what should i go for, that is the question? (i have trouble making my own decisions comes with the youth)

5drs usually have better resale values anyway, as esp. with that size of car they're of more use to families. Only sporty 3dr models tend to be worth more.

I'd go a 1.6 in black, mind you I don't plan on getting anything much bigger than a Punto until I have reason to ;)

I think the Stilo looks best in darker colours - I'd go for black or the navy blue. The 1.8 is probably the better car to drive, but the choice between that and the 1.6 depends if your priority is pace or economy. Also check how much difference the engine size makes to your insurance premium...[xx(]
