Dunno about u lot but i hate saxo's. So seeing the oppurtunity to embarrass the skip hat wearing fool i joined him in an acceleration competition lol. All was well until about 5500rpm in second ,with said saxo slighty behind , when there was an huge bang loads of smoke and loads of sparks , not good.

The problem was obvious.
Being short on funds a second hand gearbox was aquired form the local salvage yard out of a marea along with a starter motor (which was lost in the explosion) and two drive shafts. the swap was done in the street over a weekend and all was well , for two weeks. Reversing out of a space in a car park a horribly similar bang and no drive. The problem was the diff had crumbled and wrecked a driveshaft. so here i am 3 gearboxes 2 starter motors 5 driveshafts and 4 months later and all is well. I now have no money for the planned custom exhaust , tints and new sounds , almost had to sell wheels and sounds to pay for the repairs. According to transmission services guy "the gearboxes are crap anyway , u putting big wheels on it and driving like a tit dont help" lol.

Moral of the story , dont drive like a tit , dont buy salvage parts and saxo VTR's are evil!!!!!

so engaging the starter at 60mph didn't make it go any faster then?

Got more additives than fuel in my tank.

Now I have a little technical experience here, and I'd say you are right and that looks like it may be broken.

looks like only bellhousing is broke if you still have the other old box can't you just take the bell housing off that?

Good to hear though that your 1.6 is pretty much the same in performance as the VTR. Means I'd take one easily

exploding gearboxes arent that funny (well i wasn't laughing anyway) dealer told me the gearboxes arent a weak point, maybe i should bring him my two previous boxes next time. or is it just Boots that do 3 for 2?
