right, my options on getting my marea are the 2.0 20v 155 petrol OR the 2.4 130 JTD

after remaps they would be:

2.0 20v 170BHP
2.4 JTD 180BHP

whats going to be better? i mean both are going to be pretty quick arnt they?

is the petrol going to **** over the JTD at any point? is the JTD going to **** over the petrol at any point?

Cheers,
Ryan Edge

Out of those I would choose the petrol, but that's just me. Both cars are very similar but I bet that diesel pulls a bit (not women  )
Don't expect to get an answer you are happy with here though :D

The JTD will have a LOT more torque...not even close on that. The 10 extra HP will also be interesting. The current factory version of the 2.4 MJTD puts out 200HP before modifications, if that tells you anything.

I would also go for the petrol cos diesel dont taste as nice [HIC]

Ryan as your only 17 or is that 18  and still young and reletivly inocent  do you know what this future car is going to cost you insurance wise ?

0-60 the petrol will be quicker. And being a 5 cyl (?) it will sound better and feel more refined. Can be revved to the limiter.

Diesel will feel alot quicker when the turbo kicks in, which will surprise a few other cars with its in gear acceleration. And people sat in your car will say - Sh!t this thing's rapid!

:( can you not rev diesels to the limiter? yeah the petrols 5 cyl.

i think i need to test them myself really to be able to decide, now who wants to let me have a play?

EDIT: i dont think it will be fair if i test drive standard ones as its a 50BHP increase on the JTD! so its going to feel alot slower anyway :(

No use going to the limiter as your power and torque will be dropping off.

I doubt the 2.4 JTD will feel slow even without the remap. I'm campaigning for the turbo to be electronically prevented from operating in 1st gear in Bunny's Bravo - its pull away, and accelerate and WOOOOSH!!! neck snapping boost.

ohh sounds fun, i want:yum:

Diesels have quite a narrow torque band. So just as it's starting to really get going, it's time to change up a gear. Pertrol has a wider torque band, but not as much of it.

20v has a glorious note to it.

Not going against anyone else's views, but the 20v 147 pulls well from low revs - i.e. will do 20mph in 5th if you have to, but pulls well from 1750 revs to 6500+. VVT kicks in about 3750 judging by the seat of the pants.

With the diesel you get all that torque DOWN LOW in the rev range, peak torque is usually below 2000 RPM and it stays pretty close to that to somewhere past 3000 were the horsepower starts to make itself felt. Petrol engines have their torque peaks much higher up the scale, say between 4000 and 5000 and the peak is usually just that, a peak rather than a plateau like a turbo diesel usually has. Hey, drive it, you'll like it!

no contest. petrol would eat the digger version all the way to top speed mate. without a shaddow.

the digger will have more torque, but then, when are u ever goin to be pulling ur caravan up a really steep hill? (which is exaclty what a digger estate is only good for :p)

if on the JC in 5th, the digger will have more torgue, but just cog the 20v down to 4th and u'll be laughing!

20v all the way matey :D cos only being 18, ur along way from ur pipe and slippers yet!

Dunc

MJTD, that the new Multi-Jet version of the JTD engine.

I wonder if the new Grande Punto is wide enough under the bonnet for the 2.4 to fit. The 2.4 is a five cylinder inline engine, so it may not be able to go in there. 200 HP and 400Nm of torque in a car that size.....Holy Hippopotamus, that would be quick!!!

I'm 18 i have a Stilo JTD tbh Turbos are sooooooooooooo much fun :D

Whaptissssssssssh...admittely they sound like a tractor in the morning but hey once its warmed up they sound fine! :D
