Hello people

im a newbie you might say

i know a bit about cars, no expert but a little bit
first car was rover metro, current car is mk4 fiesta

i dont know why but im considering a punto!!

i always (like alot of people) slagged fiat of before saying i would never buy one due to relibiality issuess and myths (if they are myths)

im considering a mk2, they do look quite nice for a fiat especially with the glaring looking headlights (WHICH THEY NICKED OFF THE VAUXHALL CALIBRA)

my dads got a base model, with the 1.2 8v engine, id want the 1.2 16v at least, easy to modify?

are there any known issuess with punto mk2 i just want some good points so you can try and sway me to buy one, i was considering a mk5 fiesta before or even possibly a ford mondeo mk2 (96-00)

convince me to get one people. tell me all their good points!

the 1.2 16v punto is verygood choice, can get lots of bolt on mods, and you can remap them see www.angeltuning.co.uk

Power steering went, thats £400 for the part

Mine's a diesel so doesn't seem to have the Head Gasket problem that I keep seeing on the 1.2's posted up here.

Windscreen Wipers judder and linkage is fragile.

So apart from that, not a bad car!!!

You didn't say new or used. I prefer the look of the original Mk 2 before the restyling. The existing Mk 2 is still in the catalog as a lower price version of the Grande Punto. I think it only comes in just one trim level now so there may be some bargains about on high trim leftovers. For me the diesel is the only possibility as I go about 35000 miles a year. I'd avoid the 1.2 8V engine on an older car, as mentioned above.

I had a Mk4 Fiesta for 3 years with low running costs and no problems. Mine and sammi's 7 Fiats have had one or two problems between them... Admittedly, only of them was a Punto.

come on then people need a bit more convincing

my other possible choice is another mk4 fiesta maybe the 1.4 16v model

try and convince me the punto is better because i do like the styling of them and please fiat ppl dont whigne on about the rust, they do rust an absolute tad at bottom of arches sill lip, on the other hand the zetec engine in the ford is 1000 light years of the 1.2 16v fiat super fire engine, so come on pepple make me buy one!!!

i would be looking at a 2000 model with the 1.2 16v and the one witht the most toys which i belive is this HLX version

the best speck is the sporting, how big are you? festas are tiny compared to a punto, they more like a cento.
