What a difference this makes!! I'm well impressed with this stuff! Sharper response and a bit more kick! Only downside is the price of it 80.9p per litre here[:(!]

There's a certain satisfaction you get from driving over a Sleeping Policeman

This stuff only works in older models I reckon, it makes my Stilo jumpy, and it cost 81.9p a litre here, skank!

Using BP Performance at the moment, 81p litre. I might give Optimax a try further down the line and do a comparison.

It'll have to wait for a couple of weeks though as my tank is so full of STP, etc, I don't know what it's running on.;)

The higher-octane fuels (Super Unleaded) and "performance” fuels (Optimax) will only work properly on cars with VVT. If your car does not have VVT it cannot make use of the fuel as it can’t dynamically alter the timing. You ECU has a set of data in that the EMP uses to determine the timing, fuel delivery etc.

The next thing on a VVT FIAT is that the ECU will "learn" the new fuel settings and tame back the fuel delivery after a period anyway. Therefore you will get a good response on the first tank full, then it will go back to the original performance as the ECU "sorts it out". You need to use these so called performance fuels sparingly, and use the normal unleaded for daily use. We did nearly 3000 miles of testing on the Optimax using a TVR Griffith and a Bravo HGT. The HGT hated it, but loved Esso Super Unleaded.

What you may have experienced TC is the ECU trying to rectify the mix to accommodate the new fuel, making the car a bit "hit and miss".

So therefore, you may feel the car responds better but most of it is in you mind as you are trying to justify using it and at the same time trying to get more out of your car as a consequence. This is what the fuel is marketed on really - a bit of a con, but if it makes you feel better what the heck!

So am I wasting my money on anything higher than 95 ron?, and is my car going to get withdrawal symptons until it gets used to 95 again?

At £45 a tank this is important to me, I don't mind paying if I get something out of it.

My dad use 2 use it in his Scooby, made a difference in that but it came from Japan where they use higher octane fuels anyway:p i've used it once when i done a long motorway run think i got a bit more milage out of it.

Hello Pete, long time no speak etc... No I did mean VVT in particular, every engine from 99 has a knock sensor in the punto, bravo etc range, but the Bravo HGT has variable valve timing.

thats different, fuel in japan is 100RON. So even running optimax isn't what it is designed to run on. My mate has a scooby (http://tackycheese.net/images/misc/cars/impreza/cropped/pics.html) we got stuck in the lakes with the fuel light on with no shell optimax stations in sight, just about to give up, use 95RON and drive home slowly but then found one - and we could drive home in a much more fun kinda fashion :)

hehe

Cinq Sporting - and yes, its broom yellow!

I used optimax in my Cinq sporting for a while... while i didnt really noticed any increase in acceleration speed, the car revved far more freely and sounded less brash, reaching revs i had never managed in it before. Optimax rules, and my Clio *sorry i swore* loves it!

Had a Cinq, bought a new Clio, so now I don't have a Cinq.
