I'm bunging this information on here (but a moderator may care to edit/move the post) as the content may well have been posted elsewhere before or it might just be plain dull
My car is in the last 6 months of the 3year warranty. When I bought the car it was not from a Fiat franchise. As the service light came on at the time the car was inspected by the RAC a service was included in the price (naturally using all Fiat parts so as not to invalidate any subsequent warranty "issues").
When my car was last in at Fiat for some partly warranty work (Dec'05) the stamped service history was adequate as service proof (along with the genuine Fiat parts ofcourse!). Now it seems, and in light of similar action by other manufacturers, as of January 1st Fiat require that if your Fiat has been serviced at a non franchise garage you must provide the invoice/bill for the works undertaken from a VAT registered garage (as before) as well as the stamped service book. I guess in a small way it's a measure by the manufacturers designed to deal with the more unscrupulous folk who might try to do a fast one on warranty claims and to ensure franchise loyalty? In a small way I see it as a measure to get around that EU legislation?
Any which way you look at it - keep those invoices if you do go elsewhere, otherwise you'll be up that certain creek without a paddle or a pot to **** in afterwards
I very nearly had a very major sense of humour failure when I was told this today, simply because I didn't have the invoice for the last service with me nor was I told I needed it when I rang the garage (despite the fact the dealer was well aware from my last visit that the last service was done by a non Fiat garage). So blindly I went in assuming that the service book was still adequate proof - not so.
