cool! so u been here before?

I dont know too much about sydney, I grew up in melbourne and moved here around 3 or so years ago. I miss melbourne :)

the electrics are playing up, the backlight for the console wont turn on anymore(worked the first time i messed with it), the clock turns on and off according to it's mood, the oil pressure and handbrake like to switch places...when i pulled the handbrake up last week the oil pressure would flash, now the handbrake light is working...*sigh* I didnt take it to the mechanics to get a roadworthy ticket as its being nasty. im going to give it 2 more weeks, to get my manual and work on it for a while and see how it goes.

much thanks my friend

no, never been. melbourne tends to have more seasonal weather according to what ive read. aussie govrnt want brits to go and take up jobs in melbourne as my cousin[my aunts son] tells me. he tells me there is lots of work going.
right the electrics;-
sounds all too familiar :) there is a resistance in the wiring somewhere going on.check all earth connections behind the dash. check the main fuse box ones. the console light could be bulb or bad connection or fuse. to check earth on wires, you need a permanent live. connect red clip from volt meter to the live, and black to earth wire for checking.
the oil pressure and handbrake light might share a plug connection and earth. its time consuming. the clock has a bad connection. its connection or break in the wire is moving perhaps when you get in and out of the car.
see how you get on.
andy.

cheers mate.

i will get my friend who used to be an electronic engineer to do it, coz i checked all the earths and all that stuff and just gave up coz its so bloody frustrating.

i think the govt is trying to boost melbourne's population and de-centralise ethnicities etc I know a few peoples that got moved there and i knew 1 english family in melbourne, I know of several in sydney...that could be why?

melbourne is a cool city i'm sure you'll like it if you go there. it's probably the manchester of aus (assuming ofcourse manches is the 2nd largest etc)

manchester is always damp or very wet. hate the place. infact, hate cities. iam a country person at heart. but i know what you mean.:p
only 16million or so population. all almost populating around the coasts. amazing country. interesting anaimal life. it either bites or stings you to death. that funnel web spider is a tricky fella likes to wait under toilet seats for you. it bites def where it shouldn't:eek:
my aunt has one of those 6ft monitor lizard things living in her back yard!! she tells me its quite friendly:)
good look on the electrics. when you get frustrated. leave it alone and come back to it. a fresh mind is always a clear mind.
andy.:)

hi again.
who is the book by?
car still troublesome?
any progress?
andy.:)

the car has had some progress, it shoots white smoke now...hmm...I over did it with the oil, that could be why? the electrics are still annoying me and i realised today that the seals of the window are not too good and they leak water inside the car, will get on that V soon, im hoping the water hasnt seeped inside the wiring. the book is by a man named kenneth ball of the guild of motoring writers , from sussex. the book is well old.l but seems to vocer a lot, i have A LOT of studying to do... it has step by step procedures, which is lovely jubly.(y)

much thanks Andy :)

stupid question...(keeping in mind ofcourse there are no stupid Q's just stupid people) okay, I think i know what the tensioner is now, i had a look at it in the book, im confused though, when changing the tensioner; do i change the support screw or belt tensioner...or...?

oh, some advice here por favore, the breather hose was ripped so i replaced it and i found the backfire suppresor, the bottom part of the tube and when i opened the sparks some of the spark plugs drenched with old oil.

do you think it's because the oil pump has excessive wear and has too much clearance and is pumping stuff all over the place?*

*DISCLAIMER: I apologize for my ignorance.

white smoke is water and not oil.:(
the tensioner is the whole unit thats moves to tension the cam-belt. it looks like a small pulley.
i think if you are going to change the belt, then take the head off and change the head gasket as suggested in an earlier post i sent you. this should stop the smoke.
haynes make a very good 132 repair manual[ before they started skimping on subjects]. you should look out for one[perhaps ebay or secondhand carbook dealers].
good luck. any questions, just ask.:)
andy.

thank you my friend, this auto book covers a lot, but a lot of it i dont know about so i got to try to figure it out.

regarding the oil; if there is water getting in through to the oil, shouldnt the oil be a caramel coloury goo? because when i changed the oil the first time the oil was completely black and since hasnt really looked like water is getting in...

i checked the oil again and couldnt find any more water...?

thanks a lot andy :D

water is possibly getting into the combustion chambers because the head gasket has an internal leak around one of the water galleries. so it won't get in the oil system.
get yourself a haynes 132 book. they are more easy to follow.

Use a good quality semi synthectic. I personally use Castrol Magnatec 15/40, but any quality brand will do. Dont go any lower then this oil due to the old type twin geared oil pump used.
As for parts, not many cars around now, so parts are scarce. Try http://turbo124.com/forum/index.php?sid=827ae949ba5ab44ded6e6d66856ae013 Its an Australian/Newzealand forum fullof good Fiat nuts and old models.
