Hi All,

Having trouble with our MiTo - needs a new gearbox (well, secondhand)

Its the 1.4 16v 95 BHP model, with reverse gear next to 6th (so not the M32 - I think)

My gearbox part number is 551963361
When searching - that part number seems to relate to 5 Speed gearboxes fitted to almost anything with a 1.1 or 1.2 FIRE engine.

Somethings not right, as the MiTo is 6 Speed.

Most MiTo gearboxes I'm looking at have the part number 55247483

Does anyone know if the MiTo gearbox is interchangable with any 6 Speed gearbox from the Grande Punto/Punto Evo/500/Panda 100HP?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thank you.

Hi :)

Quite how 'dead' is it..?

The Grandes had a bad reputation for failures..
I will link you to thread that may have ..some.. relevance

I THINK the petrol bravos have a different box..

Do the ePER sites not detail it properly?

Assuming it has not broken in pieces, there are many perfectly competent gearbox specialists who could rebuild your gearbox. Maybe someone on the forum can refer one they have used.

Another thought - will the 100HP six speed box fit the car? It has reverse to the right of 6th. Forum members might know.

Very dead. Very dead indeed.

I didn't know there were ePER sites - have just googled and tried a couple but one is full of pop ups and the other stops in 2005. Will look into this further.

Thanks for the reply - much apprecited!

It hasn't completely imploded, but I have a couple of quotes. Only been able to get worst case scenario quotes as the specialists haven't seen the issue before. At that price, it isn't feasible to be reconditioned, so I think that a second hand box is the way forward.

Yes, Panda 100HP and MiTo have Reverse to the right of 6th (used to have a 100HP)

Thank you for your reply

I have found a website, and the Punto Sporting 1.4 16v 95BHP has the same gear ratios as the MiTo, so I would assume it is the exact same box, albeit with a different part number.

Compare the change mechanisms ;)

Just to finish the thread, I ended up buying a Grande Punto gearbox removed from a 2008 car with the 1.4 16v engine and it fits without a problem and the car drives just as it should.
