Hello group!
While I'm driving, particularly in the morning, my wheel block and is very hard to maneuver and the red wheel light shows on the dashboard. I went for diagnostics and I had C1002, C1003, U1601 messages, Steering column motor torque position sensors, signal not valid, intermittent.

In the garage, they said I need to change the whole column and will cost me 400 quids. Is there any other option?
My car is Fiat Panda 2007 1.3 Multijet
Regards.

Yes it is true the whole collum is one unit with sensors ect

That being said power steering issue's are often caused by. Bad Battery or earth cable

How old it's the battery in your car?

I have not changed the battery since I own the car, more than 3 years already. But every year I have full service + MOT and I think the battery is checked there and they would tell me if it needs to be changed.

Can speak for the garage you use it in my experience is say it's very rare for a garage to checks battery during a service and it's only need to be secure as far as the mot is concerned

It would be worth getting a "drop test" done on the battery allthough you may find it hard to find many places to do one at the minute

That being said batterys for these are very cheep £45-55 last I saw

Thank you for the help, guys. I've decided to change my whole column with a fixed one, including a lifetime warranty. Now I have a new problem - Turbo needs to be changed too, I was quoted 500 quids. On the motorway when I press the gas at max, I'm receiving the engine yellow light. The mechanic changed the sensor but its the turbo. My car is on 113 000 miles already and I'm thinking is it worth it..

Exactly why it's worth trying a new battery first before buying expensive parts if it didn't work it's a fairly easy part to sell on again

The new column showed the difference even with the old battery, after that I've bought a new battery and the engine issue is still there

How much would a new car cost? Lets suppose you get something old and pay over 12 months. £800 is about 4 months of repayments. So get the turbo done and after 4 months its paid for itself.

BUT - get the car properly checked by someone who is not trying to sell you a new one. If it's otherwise in good condition get the turbo replaced.
