MES vs Multidiag [delphi clone thing]

Wish someone had given me this for free! Looks like a good piece of kit. I think these examples feature it:

https://www.obdinnovations.com/mult...gnostic-interface-for-cars-and-trucks-2015-3/

https://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/shop/multidiagpro

The second one has a playable tutorial which is quite interesting.

It has the look of a Chinese made unit - nothing wrong with that, I've been looking at Hantek oscilloscopes. Can't justify the price of a Pico for my home use - but there are reports of them being "awkward" to set up.

I'm an MES fan and have closer ties to MES and it's developer than most people. I also use and like the Foxwell kit on convenience, reasonable quality and price point.

I think what people should bear in mind when comparing MES with AlfaOBD with Delphi, Snap-On etc. is the size and reputation companies involved.

To the best of my knowledge MES and Yani are small operations with limited and specific demand from the DIY, small one make specialists with limited financial resources. The same goes I guess for AlfaOBD.

Delphi etc. are large corporations all fighting for a good market share and reputation for not just one make/brand of vehicle diagnostics but for that/those wider professional garage businesses who they themselves have a reputation to protect and better financial resources.

Delphi etc. will have more money, more people, more manufacturer contact/liaisons going on as a consequence their products are going to be in a different league and price range to MES and AlfaOBD.

Now what I do like about MES is that the Supported Vehicles list is very detailed in what MES supports. The same is also true for AlfaOBD. For other diagnostic kit manufacturers then finding this detailed information is not so easy and also for *some* the support for Fiats/Alfas can be limited. Others will have potentially superior support for Fiats/Alfas.

What I'm really interest in is how these guys are going to handle not only the current Security Gateway (SGW) that Fiat currently have on some of their later cars but also the follow-on more embedded encryption that will be deployed in the future. :bang:

Is that similar to the Volvo system where the car has to connect direct to the factory and the local display is really just a mirror? This of course needs a proper manufacturer account.
