Hey not sure if this post is in the right place , feel free to let me know, I noticed my rear defroster wasnt working, i verified the fuses and it seems one is missing ( the 5 amp ), theres a slot for a 30aamp fuse as well as a 5 amp fuse ( fiat pop 2015 ) i was just wondering if anyone could confirm that both slots should have a fuse in them ? thanks

Does your 500 have heated wing mirrors? The 5 amp is possibly for those (so would be normally absent if you don't have them) and shouldn't affect the operation of the rear screen demister. This suggestion is based on the description and wiring diagram here. Have a look - it may also give you some pointers towards other things to check (relay, earth point, etc). Just be aware though that it was probably written for the European 500, so might not be quite the same as yours?

The most common reason for problems with the 500 tailgate electrics that I'm aware of is broken wires in he flexible rubber duct between the tailgate and the body (top left?). Do you have any related problems with the rear wiper, middle brake light or boot lock? More info about this in these threads:

There are many others ... search for "tailgate wiring" or "boot wiring" or similar.

...

In terms of where best to post ... for model-specific issues ... the 500 (USA) sub-forum ... or the 500 sub-forum ... the former is more focused on 500s manufactured for the North American market, the latter more on the European market ... you'll get answers posting in either though ... so not something to worry about too much at the end of the day.

no heated wing mirrors, but the diagram i viewed listed both as rear defroster fuses. i didnt remove all the wire housing in the tailgate so couldnt get a good look. i kinda feel like sticking a fuse in there to see what will happen.. i really like the fiat but am upset at how often ive had to maintain it , door handle , rear wiper , oxygen sensor etc... but at that price range it is the more attractive car especially cheap since mine was a demo... i might go take a better look at the wires... but chances are im gonna stick a 5 amp fuse in there and see... thx!

What was the source of the diagram that you viewed ... I'd be interested to compare it to the one I mentioned in my earlier post ... do you have a link or a copy you can attach?

I can't see any harm in trying a 5 amp fuse (nothing higher-rated though). Although the 30 amp will be inline with the screen heating element it's possible the 5 amp is part of the low-current side of the switching relay.

Sorry to hear that you've had a few problems with your Fiat. How long have you had it? Has the demister ever worked? What was the cause of the problem with the rear wiper?

the rear defroster used to work great , ice would melt within minutes. going to verify the wires once the temperature goes up as i dont have a garage. the problem with the rear wiper was the spring , it stretched when i changed it and wouldnt hold tight against the glass, found a cheap replacement on ebay.

anyone know where to get the replacement wire? i did a quick fix but it snapped again , ordered a wire on ebay but was way too small...
