Getting shot of my 57 Reg Fiat Bravo as it has a crack in the axle, its only done 88,000 miles and in good condition £200 anyone interested as I would loathe putting it into to a scrapyard thanks

On most Fiats the axle is easy to remove. Have you had it costed for repairs?

It is a common problem. The frying pan shaped dish that the spring presses against corrodes and cracks. A repair needs additional metal from the axle arm to part way around to take the spring loads. Get both sides done because the other side will also be rusted and weak.
The axle will need a thorough soaking in rust protection oils to stop it getting worse.
