Hi, so I called my local fiat dealership to get a quote for a throttle body for my 2007 Punto, as the P1220 code shows on the diagnostics and the car is starting to get noticeably worse. I was quoted £680 for this part alone and that doesn't include fitting!! Am I correct in thinking that this can't be right? Thanks:bang:

Quite likely to be the price from Fiat.
But first you need to be sure you need one. I assume from your post that the P1220 code relates to the throttle body, but don't just take that. The computer expects signals to be within parameters for each operating unit or sensor. If outside those parameters it will report it as a fault. That does not automatically mean that the component is at fault, only that the messages are incorrect between that unit and the computer.
Before condemning any unit, such as the throttle body, check all connections, and the unit's cleanliness or contamination, and for nay air leaks.
MultiECUscan is a good diagnostic tool and may be able to see what is happening to help pinpoint the problem.

If you are sure you need a throttle body, look for any identification marks and use these to search online, Ebay especially. It is likely to be made by Marelli or Bosch and these components are often available to the aftermarket at significantly lower prices. Might even be able to locate a known good used one.

Hi thanks for the reply. Yeah I heard that the p1220 can be a range of problems. The engine management warning light is constantly on now, before it was only on periodically. When I get to around 40mph the acceleration starts jolting with power loss sort of like kangaroo fuel... Also the engine won't rev past 5000 rpm when I am sitting idle does that sound like the throttle body is on the brink?

It could be the throttle position sensor rather than the throttle body. It could be a lot of things, rather than the throttle body. Post your symptoms into the correct forum lounge and see if anyone can help.

If you strongly do suspect it's the throttle body, look for a second-hand one. There must be loads about for that engine.

Even if it's not perfect itself, it might improve things a lot....or not at all. Either way, you'll have an idea whether the TB is the culprit or not, before you spend so much money on a brand new one.
