Hi all, can anyone tell me where the engine number can be found on the 1600tc, can't seem to see one anywhere:cry:

Blimey ,talk about the most awkward place to put it, how on earth is anyone supposed to read it there, thanks for the info s130, will check it out in the morning

just had a look and it's impossible to check it in that location, why would fiat put an engine number there:bang:

I had forgotten that the 131 is rear wheel drive thus the bell housing is not very accessible like on a transverse front wheel drive.

Mirror on a stick?

If the engine is the original for the car then from a chassis number it may be possible to find the engine number.

Bit of an update and just in case anyone else is trying to find the engine number, the number is actually just to the right of oil filter housing and immediately above engine mount bracket

That is the Engine BASE type number.

eg. 138AR2

The full number

e.g. 138AR2.xxx.0nnnnnnn

is stamped on the end of the block and is not casting moulded on the front of the engine block.

Hope this qualifies base and full engine numbers.[/QUOTE

That's not correct, the engine number is indeed the one by the oil filter, I do know what an engine number looks like, it's stamped (not cast) onto the flat section just by the oil filter housing, it's not a casting number as you suggest, thanks for trying to help anyway

the engine number stamped just to right of oil filter is: 131B1.000 with the 7 digit engine number just below

Fiat 131 and 132 twin cams had the engine number directly under the inlet manifold. Occasionally, there was a number by the distributor also.

there you go, fairly easy to read the numbers once the machined area was given a light wire brush to get rid of the dusting of surface rust and then a good clean with spirit wipe

OK thanks for that info littlemouse.

Have just check our 2.0L TC in our 130TC. Same as your 1.6TC.

I'm obviously too used to 80s Fiat single cam block where they put the number on the end of the block.

Don't often get things incorrect. My apologies for the Goose chase.
I have some epic memories of my strada 130 tc, guy Croft built on twin 45s with some 48 jets, cams sang to 9200rpm and 3rd and 4th gear pulled from 25mph to 120mph
