Where I live, it is assumed you drive a Fiat because you can't afford to drive anything 'better'. In some cases, there might be some truth in that! They're more affordable to buy and run than other cars about.

I realised some of you guys here could afford cars worth much much more if you wished!

What made you buy a Fiat over say, a more 'high-end' brand or car?

I fell in love with fiats when I was still at school . It was when I first saw the fiat strada commercial on tv with all the robots making a weird car?

I got into Fiat when my parents traded in a rubbish Escort for a relatively early mk2 Punto. Prior to this, I would never have even considered a Fiat, and was even 1 of the morons that sneered at them! When my parents bought their mk2, I realised just how wrong I was, and after failing to find a good Punto for the money I had to spend when looking for my 1st car, I ended up buying a mk2b for my 2nd car, and after owning that for nearly 4 years, I traded that in for the Grande I own now. I can honestly say that I hope to stick with Fiat for as many car changes as I possibly can.

I was one of those people too. We may only be forgiven by redeeming ourselves in the future (by buying more Fiats!!!) lol

I'm glad I saw the plus sides! Love my Panda!

No nonsense panda for me please. Had audi convertible , bmw convertible ,2 mx5s, renault convertible, golfs and three pandas since 2000 and id rather drive a panda than anything. People may look down their nose at you but i have the satisfaction of knowing that my car is better....
most cars are cars a fiat is like a member of the family

When I started learning to drive my girlfriend at the time had a Punto Mk2, which I thought was cool. As I was learning, she traded up to a Panda which was equally cool. My lessons were in a Micra, and when I passed I had narrowed the list down to a Micra or a Seicento. The Sei was local, and the Micra wasn't, so when I went to test the Sei I loved it and bought it straight away. Still have it 9 years later, and have owned or driven so many other Fiats it's not even funny!

About 5 years ago i bought a 2003 stilo jtd it was a good economical car but was written off some one drove into the back of it, about a month back i needed another car and spotted a 2005 stilo jtd on ebay in a breakers yard for sale mot till october 103000 miles on the clock £595, it looked to good in the photoes for that price and i left it for a week then looked again still for sale so i drove 75 miles to newmarket in suffolk in my battered in 1994 astra, got the £95 scrap value for the astra so £500 for the stilo, it drives spot on just needed the right size battery, bonnet catch fixing, interior courtesy light bulb replacing, top up clutch fluid, the only thing that doesnt work is the fuel gauge which il sort out soon, its got 17" black abarth alloys, paint code 132 rosso red metalic, a decent after market head unit, no rust just some stone chips on the bonnet.:)

Back in the late seventies, early eighties, I worked in a Rover dealer in Dorset. We occasionally got Fiats in as trade-ins. Loved the performance and feel of the 128 1300. Astonished by the performance of the 131 2000.

Later, 1988, I'd moved away to Oxford, and my current car, Marina 1700 Auto, was crap. Found a 131 1600ohv Auto at the right price. Despite being the ohv engine not the twin cam, it went rather well and used less fuel than the Marina it replaced. Loved it. Kept it for over 3 years, took it form 26500 miles to 101000. Replaced with an Argenta 2000 Auto. Turning circle of a supertanker, but lovely to drive, but could be surprisingly quick when pushed. Did 52000 miles in about 3 years, couldn't keep up with the growing holes in it. Replaced with a classic Panda 750. Even more fun, even if overtakes needed notice in writing. 2 years, 45000 miles, upgraded to a 1000 Panda, and a 5-speed box! 4 years and 88000 miles, had a rush of blood to the wallet and bought 3½ years and 85000 miles, poor thing got tired. Then only 9 months with a Punto mk2 CVT Auto. Still miss that one.
Keep Fiats, they grab the emotions.
Sadly 6 years without a Fiat, just the driving school cars, Corsas, then BSM went to the 500 for a year. Loved them, but missed the rear doors and headrests, so bought the Panda. Just coming up to 7 years now, still love it.
Rationally the AA Fiesta is a better car. Faster, more solid, but absolutely dead emotionally. For personal trips, still prefer the Panda. Not logical, just emotional.

I've always loved the style of Fiat's going back as far as I can remember. I had a couple of mates who had an X19 and an Uno Turbo. Then my parents got a Mk1 Punto when they first came out. That was a good fun car despite pretty rubbish build quality and the appalling dealership, they even got another after some scrote torched ours.

I got my Multipla after finding out three cars seats wouldn't fit in a Mondeo. I needed to change cars and had no money at the time so I swapped the Ford with 102K on the clock for a 1 owner Multi' with 46K and FSH. It was just meant to be a stop gap car.......this was 5 years and 80K ago!

Now where is the reply from the forum killjoy to tell us we are all deluded idiots for driving Fiats?

Anti-Fiat Killjoys are outnumbered on this forum ;-) and especially this thread.

Stand strong, Italian driving brethren ;D haha

I miss them when I don't drive them. There's no logic to it. All the Fiats I've owned I've been really sad when I've sold them or changed. I've not experienced that with other cars. It doesn't make sense with any logical analysis. I've never owned an Alfa but my father experienced the same with his Alfas and now feels the same about his Maserati. Maybe it's not a Fiat thing but an Italian car thing...

That really just about sums it up completely.

I foolishly sold my Panda 100 3 weeks ago, and regret it now. I could have kept it and got shot of my daughters Micra instead. The Panda is way better built and more reliable than the Micra and I loved it in a totally unhealthy way.....
