Well, Certainly not something that started life as a Dodge. They just don't get the idea of European build quality and the interior plastics would look cheap in an 80's Yugo.

Fair enough. For want of a better way of putting it, the Freemont is the Australian equivalent of the late Sedici, if that makes sense?

Well you can gift me a nice Sierra/Escort Cosworth or an RS200 or something. :D

Erm, nah. :p I'd also start up a Fiat/Alfa Romeo specialist staffed entirely by people who love Italian cars, and a car restoration business specialising in saving the sort of cars that normally end up unloved and going to scrapyards, lol!

Why's that, lol?

I think this is the clue as to why you'd be out of business in 6 months

spend a fortune restoring cars that no one wants ?? Not a great business plan

That would be a hobby, for want of a better way of putting it; a rich persons toy, lol! Besides, you obviously don't read Practical Classics: that's exactly the sort of cars they celebrate. For example, 1 issue gave advice on how to buy an Austin Montego, lol!

You called it a business which is why people commented. If you want a garage where you can plod about playing with cars that that's not a business but is up to you.

I've read practical classics in the past and the reason I don't read it regularly is because they write articles on how to buy a Montego. Back in the 80s a Montego was a sure fire way of saying you've failed in life, much like buying a proton savvy is today. Someone who wants a Montego 30 years later must have serious self esteem issues

A lot of people who bought Montego's maestro's and metros 20 years ago believed there were supporting British industry and British jobs. Even though they knew they could probably get a better car for their money in them days that wasn't what was important to a lot of people.
Today people buy and restore these cars to preserve a bit of that way of life.

To each their own. I find people that buy a brand new Audi on finance because the badge a lot sadder than people that restore a piece of nostalgia.

My dad used to have a Citroën BX diesel wagon. Nothing special, just an old french POS, but I remember the feeling of the rising suspension and flying carpet comfort...
My mom had a Citroën Visa at that time, another old POS, but I remember the sound of the boxer engine...

How sad your life must be, Andy, that you feel you have to judge others so. What's it got to do with you what car another person covets?

No I'd says is pretty good, I certainly don't let things like jokey comments made on the internet about one of the worst cars to come out of the 80s upset me. Getting offended by everything that's written on the internet you don't agree with, now that's a sad life.

20 years ago rover was bust and had been bought by BMW. This was the era of Tony Blairs "mondeo man" and the mondeo and cavalier where the car of the day. Rovers at that time were cheap cars, very cheap and that's why people bought them because they could get something equivalent of the Mondeo's and the cavaliers for a few grand less, but they didn't hold their value and they didn't last very well, which is always the trade off of buying a cheap car.

shhhh, you'll get called 'sad' by Eklipze3k because we're not allowed to have opinions about cars on a car forum.

As its a thread about winning the lottery and whether you'd keep your fiat, shall we try and stick to the subject. If you covert and aspire to owning a montego then you go and buy one when you win the lottery. PuntoFan had a valid suggestion on what he'd do, but as pointed out its not a business that would go for very long as people are not queuing up to buy montegos (though I suspect that's not what he'd be interested in restoring)
