Hi Just hoping someone can HELP me for I feel as if my head is due to explode.
I'm a single mam who has saved for ages to buy a car so Transport probs would be a thing of the past & getting my Daughter to & from places, school & home would also not be an issue! So I bought the Punto everything seemed to be running smooth but then this soon changed!! Firstly Headlights failed to work so both bulbs changed but still same very dim light & only mainbeam works if any light is needed! Over short time my probs really started when stereo was left on after my daughter went to get cd out & failed to remove face off so following morning led to battery comp flat, had jump start which got it going & I took it for a long drive to get the battery charged. I then parked car & wasn't even an hour I tried starting car but epic fail. After finding someone to come look at it was told I needed to replace ECU & due to my key being snapped in half on accident by my friend when jump starting it earlier the key I had cut was no good due to immobiliser in fob so needed new key & data transferred over.
Anyway FairPlay work was carried out & was pleased with the service and time length which got me my car back in working order (headlights still not working) but tbh being able to do the school runs was such a relief and car seemed to run ok. Well again stereo was left in ? hence having a flat battery yes'y morning & when I finally found some1 to jump start me couldn't believe that the car started when I turned key 1st time before connecting jump leads ?? Took it that battery had recharged itself bet morning to 6:30pm. Went to start car again this morning to take daughter to school & FLAT BATTERY again??
So jump start actually took place this time & after several attempts admitted defeat & wasn't getting car to start!!
Please Please can someone help for I really don't know what to do & cannot afford to get it in garage right now due to only 2 weeks ago having to pay for ECU, New key with data transferred over!
Would appreciate it if someone can help or point me in right direction
Also sorry for writing A book but thought it best I include all problems I've had recently xx

Welcome to the forum

I'd be looking at 2 things.

Firstly, it sounds like an aftermarket stereo which I suspect is wired incorrectly and is draining the battery.
Secondly, I would get the alternator checked to ensure that it is charging the battery. With the engine off the battery should be producing 12v, with the engine running there should be a reading across the battery terminals of around 14.4v.

Whereabouts in the country are you? Someone local may be able to cast an eye over a few things and see what's happening.

Btw, if you insert the key and turn it to the first position, does the CODE/key light on the dash go out after a few seconds?

Firstly "Thank you" for the welcome & replying! Means a lot (prob more than u would imagine)!
Will get it checked as advised but I'm going to have to save/get money together first! I'm in Ebbw Vale, Gwent in South Wales.
Also regarding the Code Light it I'm sure it does go out as that was the problem before ECU was changed for it did not go out. But I will go & check & if ok confirm 100% on outcome of code light.
Again Appreciate your reply xx

Hi,

those basics can be done in 5 mins with a £5 volt meter..,

connect to battery - should be OVER 12 Volts

start engine - battery should be over 14 Volts - as alternator charges battery,
IF either of these figures are LOW then you'll need more info..,

I'm guessing your "51 punto" is a petrol engine / 5 speed manual gearbox..??

Hi also Thank you for replying & am so grateful.
Firstly could I ask where would be the best place to purchase the Volt meter you mentioned?
Also Yes to both of your questions, apologies for that crucial info missing & did think I put that in my essay ☺️ But can see it's not so again sorry x

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digital-L...861?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item53f1c8bba5

loads of these on ebay for less than £5 delivered..that's what I've used,

IF you can just remove + unplug the radio - even removing it's supply fuse may save your battery..!!,
