sad news, at the weekend mum bought a new car and has traded in the cinq! even though it let us down a lot, it was always a lot of fun, so im now definatley on the look out for a new car, mum will try and insure me on the new one, but if its too much, i maybe a bit car-less! said to say i may be leaving the fiat kingdom, as i may be getting a megane coupe now, sorry all!!!

to be honest i dont want another cinq, ive been driving for 2 years and want something different now, i was looking at a mk1 punto sporting, but after drving a megane coupe its definately what i want! sorry to disappoint u all!

:O you're leaving the fiat kingdom? I've only just entered it as i only passed my test last monday and i have to say i love my lil cinq!

Well someone recently joined with the intention of selling their cinq!

if you thought the cinq was unreliable, wait until you get a megane. our neighbour has one and its ALWAYS breaking down, in two years its had...

2 engines, 3 head gaskets, 4 gearboxes (all lost reverse), 2 starter motors, 2 ECUs, 1 immobiliser (car wouldnt start with key), 1 battery (then realised the alarm was draining the battery), 3 alternators, and the central locking has never worked. it runs out of warranty in december, so my neighbour is either going to sell it, or watch it being slowly crushed :D

Ah yes, so your neighbour's car is obviously a reflection of all Meganes, all Renaults even and possibly all French cars. Or not.

ok my mams renault 19 is good, but that hasnt got all the gadgets (nothing to go wrong). but the heater has stopped working, the gearbox now kicks into reverse, the engine is losing petrol, the choke doesnt work properly, the carb is duff, and if you think it hasnt been looked after, its got full renault service history.

But I could give you endless examples of how reliable ours have been over 20+ years of ownership of Renaults in total and possibly 200k+ miles, but even so, that doesn't show that any of the cars are reliable so wouldn't be worth saying, small examples mean nothing.

The heaters have always had problems, if you do a bit of searching, you will find the usual fix. If it isn't the controls, the unit will need replacing.

my dad has a peugeot and it is very reliable, it has had one head gaskett, my cinq however has been the most unreliable car i have ever know, but with a little TLC of her new mum (me) she is now a million times better and i have every faith in her ....

My old Renault Clio 1.4 RT had the heater matrix break - too dear to fix, so really nice to drive in the winter (n)

Then the head gasket went, lol; in the end, I think I rolled the car onto the forecourt when I came to P/ex it! A few weeks laters, got a call from a young girl in London, who had picked it up via a trader - the whole bottom of the engine had fallen out onto the road ....

Still, as we are saying, every make of car has its good points and bad points - really down to luck of the draw.

oh well, this is what ive chosen to do and i have agree that not all cars are bad, one person may have a great car, but their friend may have the same model and have loads of problems from day one! i have worked so hard to save up money for my own car and not a hand me down from my mum, i agree that the cing was a great car to learn and drive, but 2 years on i want a car i can call my own! is that not ok? i think u should check out www.coupe-club.co.uk and see that it aint all grannies! anyways the cinq left us on saturday, sad to see it go, but mums new car is great, a renault scenic!

here is a pic of what im driving till i get my own!!

my cinq is absolutely brilliant

i have never ever had a problem with it. The handbrake could hold a tank in place and the car just runs and runs and runs. I put a fiver of pertol in to it and it takes it well over a quarter of a tank (me dad always says my car runs of fresh air). I did a test the other day and i put a tenner in it and the reset me mile gager and i got roughly 150 miles out of a tenner.

my mum and dads rover has had to be taken back to the show room twice since they got it. Less than a year ago (same day i got mine, tom).

I got to say that the cinq is the most reliable car that our family has had in years. Even my aunts 02 model rover 25 is not as good as my 14 year old Cinque-beast.

for fuel economy i reckon that the cinq is right up there.

i am going to keep it till i have enough money to buy me self a brava the fastest one that i can get (keeping it fiat guys all the way)
