hey guys new here
and need a quick response if u guys can
was gonna get a cheap 1.2 2000 punto sporting to run around in but recently found out that HGT go for a little bit more that equivalent year sporting, and only £150 more to insure
i am a ex heavily modified clio 16v owner that use to make rouhgly 150 bhp and that shifted a bit
how quick is the HGT 0-60 0m - ton 1/4 mile top speed or will i be better of with the cheap to run 1,2 sporting
cheers in advance guys im going to look at a HGT tomorrow so need a quicish reply

Buy the HGT! you'll have more tuning potential and more horses under the bonnet! If i presume it's a Mk2 punto, it'll have a 1.8 engine!

1.2 or 1.8? i'd say 1.8 if it's gonna cost u pennies to insure it!

Wanted: Exhaust for my Cinq Sporting! PM me!

ok den lets hope i wont be disappointed when i drive it
i dont think ill be moding it, learnt my lesson on my old car

NONONONONONONO
Punto 1.9 JTD is both more tunable, quicker and also, MUCH cheaper to insure (group 6) and 45 mpg to boot! 0-62 is currently just over 7 seconds and top end is 140, and we have only just started :) Forget the HGT (you cant really tune them at the moment, you can only add maxx kiddy bits) and the 1.2 is out of the same league.

u serious mate
i now nothing about puntos but i dont like the idea of owning a diesel
i said at the start watever i buy it wont be tunned ill be keeping it for 6 months to a yr till i can afford a integra type R
so out of the box the HGT is fastest and newest reliable punto right

OMG - NEVER buy a scooby, they are like fat girls, great fun but embarrasing when your mates see you in one! They have a worse reputation for being a total TOSSER car than the XR3i or Capri had! Only driven now by 30 something males who have goatee's and are still wearing baseball caps . Nooooooooooo!

As for "tunned", its your choice - but you seem to ask a bit of numb nuts question - is the 1.8 HGT quicker than the 1.2 or would you be better off with the 1.2 - noone can really answer that except yourself! I just threw in a modern alternative.

I have the 1.8 HGT engine in my Barchetta (its where it originated) and it is a superb drivers car, which is to be expected because the thing doesnt weigh anything! I have also just had a Bravo 2.0 HGT 155 for the past 2 1/2 years which again was a cracker! I now have swapped the HGT for a JTD which is QUICKER on both 0-62 and top end the the BRAVO HGT let alone the PUNTO HGT! And my insurance has gone down form £56 a month to £27 and instead of 28mpg I get 45!

All relative when I am tuning Alfa 156 JTD's to 195 BHP :D and out performing the 2.5 V6

Just thoughts for you!

I've got a 2002 HGT.

I run the car on Optimax, believe me - it needs it! The car is altogether different when running on this stuff.

I raced a Volvo 850 T5 the other day off the lights and kept up with it. It was during the evening and I had 1/4 fuel left in the tank. That Volvo is in the 7 sec category. Same a a Merc S-Class I raced.

That engine is WITHOUT a DOUBT quicker that 8.6 0-60. Depends how well you drive the car.

Sometimes that car really surprises me, you get quick ones you get slow ones, I recently had the car serviced and viarator replaced, so the cars running mint.

I've sat in one on Nigels remapped JTD Puntos and I must admit it was damn quick, shockingly quick!

You get all the benefits of high milage, torquey engine etc.

But then the standard JTD looks pants!! and it sounds rough as old boots.

Tit for tat I guess, depends on what you want, and what you'd prefer over the other! ;)

As for the Sporting, yes it's a great car, but if you're used to 150Bhp, your not gonna love it as much as you should :(

So it's HGT between the two (or JTD)!

Anyone know how well the new MJTD HGT goes and can be tuned? Ought to be reasonably economical and quick with it!
