i am on me first fiat and i must say the build is a bit shocking lol considering the car was only 2 year old when i got it. i have had 2 clutches new alternator, new starter. needs a new fly wheel. steering shaft replaced think it needs another. it has several rattles the paint chips if you look at it wrong way.
it has had far more problems than my previous cars rover 213s and cav sri.

but still i muist admit i quite like it for some reason lol

my dad has a uno i swear its the most neglected car ever, its used as real load carrier. hasnthad a service in 6 years god knowswhen oil was changed. the engine is the oilest worse looking lump i have ever seen........but you knwo what the dam thing starts and runs everyday and has never broken down. sometimes i just cant belive it lol

you must have got a fake fiat got a old fiat panda and you'll know how reliable fiat is (old is best) (y)

Yeah ok fair enough but it still doesn't mean that you should have a new dent in you're paper doors every time someone shuts them properly, neither does it mean that you should have a new gearbox because fiat make one where its a common fault for the diff plate to break up,resulting in quotes up to £700,£1600 from fiat.Oh and the springs are pretty crap, for a sporting anyway.Hopefully the next car does the biz,and costs me a lot less on parts in the long run

When i was looking formy first car 2 years ago, my dad test drove11 little cars, incl 106's, 206's, clio's, Yaris, Corsa, Saxo, etc etc.

The Punto was the only one he liked driving!! So hence i bought my 52plate. He loves my car, he thinks its great fun!! My mates all pass comments about Fiats, and ask why i talk about buying another Fiat next!!

My cars not been a spot of bother!!

BMW 320ci 2.2l coupe.Cant be doing with cars that keep going wrong every time I drive it up the road

Nice car & hope your happy with it,however you cannot compare a punto to a BMW.Of course the BM will be more reliable after it it costs what 3 or 4 times the cost therefore you would expect (and get) reliability.
I think you expected to much from your punto, its a cheap value car and it doesn't pretend to be anything else.It has cheap running costs & its owners benefit from cheap insurance, therefore it is popular with alot of younger folk who cannot afford sky high insurance rates.
A little basic preventive maintenance will keep a punto running for many years and the problems they do have are well known/documented & easily cured/fixed.

I'm sorry but i disagree again. The insurance depends on where you live £1700 aint cheap in my opinion, and the CHEAP running costs <Like a gearbox, clutch, exhaust,CV,head gasket> dont seem cheap to me either, but a friend of mine followed suit and got a 1.6 sporting, and he too had nothing good to say about it.I agree that fiat make fast cars, but they are far too unreliable and expensive for my liking.
If i was happy with my fiats it would no doubt be a different story, but unfortunately i'm not, which is why i'm gonna have to change suit for the next car.

I wasn't disagreeing with you paul, which is why I wished you all the best for your new car but merely pointing out that a BMW by & large is more reliable than a punto because its costs more & more quaility control & better components can be used, stands to reason.
I'm sorry your experience with fiat wasn't/isn't a good one but its all many of us here can afford so we make do like it or not...yeah give me a big volvo or saab anyday but I cant afford it.
I have hundreds of colleges in the motor trade, many of them who work for BMW and tell me horror stories, all manufacturers have problems.
I will disagree that fiats are too expensive(except the croma!) and one further
point is if you are paying £1700 insurance for a punto how much will you be paying for a 320 CI ?

They do not have the reputation as a well engineered, well made, quality product. Whether they are or not is irrelevant, they have a poor reputation because of the points that I mentioned originally.
Oh well, here in India, Fiats have a reputation for reliability and being sturdily built. It is only the company that has a bad reputation - not helped by the dealers. I have a Petra (Albea for you Europeans) and it seriously rocks.

Re: Blame it on the americans, sadly tis true

Fiat is a great company and proved that when gm paid billions not to own fiat.
I'm in NA and have not seen many other marques around here in decades, datsoon? now nissan. Yes fiat pulled up roots here in NA, but just to confuse GM into paying billions not to own it.It wont be long and delphi and its troubles will spill in to gm, ford and chrysler, benz.
Fiat will still be around.

Fiat enthousiasts still prevail in NA with 20-30 year old cars. Most in NA go to mirafiori.com.
The last new fiat i worked on was a tipo 1993 turbo diesel, from the italian embassy.Car of the year.
You europeans are lucky you have never been forced to drive any car made in america over the last few years. The funny part is most new cars made in americas besides toyota is not made in america, or even canada.Just assembled here.
