Due to be released in 2008

Translation(no guarantee it is 100% correct):

New Mini Fiat für 2008: Piccolo bello
The rear engined micro car with only 2.65m in length is supposed to be a rival of the Smart City coupe – But with 4 seats and a sliding door

The first new development on that basis could be a microcar, which Fiat might realease instead of the originally planned retro style mini called Trepunio, which was scheduled to come out in 2007. While the Trepunio concept car with its 3+1 seats and 3.3m in length would’ve been based on the Lancia Y, this new Micro car will be shorter. With only 2.65m in overall length it could match the size of the next Smart ForTwo moels(Debut scheduled for 2007) but will have 4 seats(2+2) and come out by the end of 2008 the latest.
The engine arrangement is sure enough the same and will come closer to the former Fiat 500 than to the front engine concept of the Trepunio: 3 zylinder gasoline and diesel engines built in the rear of the car diagonally will transfer their power to the rear wheels. Storage space will be provided under the hood and on the backseats, which are mounted over the engine in the rear.
The height of 1.70m should provide enough space even on the rear seats, which are mounted in the car like bleachers, meaning they are in a higher position. The door concept reminds of the Peugeot 1007. But the small Fiat will only manage to get by with only one door, which is on the drivers side where it appears more important to the Fiat people. Their argument is as follows: The drivers door will be used more frequently anyway, and it also opens to the street side, where a conventionally mounted door can sometimes stop oncoming traffic. On the passenger side there will be a normal sideways opening door.
The new mini car will continue Fiats 500/600 tradition, but this time rather in a new modern way instead of a nostalgic way like the Trepunio concept. Fiat did not believe in the concepts success and thought it would, if would’ve gone into production, not to be a big seller. This new mini car on the other hand is hoped to sell as many as 100,000 or up to 150,000 units a year.
A condition for the new mini car strategy is though that the new Punto, scheduled to come out later this summer, will sell enough units to finance the development and production costs. The production of the new mini car will most likely then be in Poland.

Strangely I like it... Only fiat could produce a car that has a facial expression of having unexpectedly sat on a pointy stick... I think it likes it...

cars like that always make me laugh my tits off.

I would never drive that, mainly due to self-respect but due to safety too.

but if that's what sells, that's what sells, looks like a smart car.

and oh my god, sliding doors, are they nuts? it'll end up looking like a talbot van, you'll scrape your paint on the runners and catch your doors from the inside while shutting it.

For some reson i keep trying to match it up to a cartoon car. Loks like the new brum or something like that. Still bet it would be a fun drive with a few engine mods :D

i quite like it too, a typical city car. Wouldnt catch me driving it, but a typical girly car. Can see the stick on headlightlashes now

I saw them on a yellow lupo yesterday and had to do a double take. Mind you i had to do a double take at the driver also. :D

I think it's the sort of stuff that fiat should be doing rather than Golf ripoffs and Citroen Mpv's with fiat badges....

They made there name with small rear engined cars that you could squeeze 4 into, why not stick to what you know and stop trying to be VolksWagen

It might be simalar in looks to the 1007 but not in concept as the Pug is biger than the Mivia (Vauxhall mpv thing) and as tall as the Renault scenic..... Nothing Micro about that then is there?
