A warranty company has done a survey of it's payouts and rated 23 of the most common manufacturers based on how many claims are made per 100 warranty policies sold. This means the list is based on real-life failures and not on opinions.

Fiat placed a very reasonable 9th out of 23 and beat some surprising manufacturers.

As usual with these things, Mostly Jap manufacturers are at the top but then it is little old Fiat. The full list is below.

1. Mazda
2. Toyota
3. Honda
4. Mercedes
5. Subaru
6. Mitsubishi
7. Hyundai
8. Nissan
9. Fiat
10. Volkswagen
11. Volvo
12. Ford
13. BMW
14. Peugeot
15. Rover
16. Audi
17. Vauxhall
18. Renault
19. Alfa Romeo
20. Ctroen
21. Saab
22. Jeep
23. Land Rover

I'm sure people will have an opinion (in agreement or otherwise!!) about this......

AFAIK the rating is a function of number of repairs and average cost per repair.

So a car type which has 4 breakdowns at £200 will rate better than one which has 1 breakdown at £900.

Which car is more reliable[?]

Lies, damned lies, and statistics ;)

I took out the cost per repair piece when I typed the list above. I wrote them down in order of number of repairs ONLY.

FYI - Fiat still finished 9th with the cost taken into account too.
