wow! thats a lot of italian metal. how many on average is that a year? I can't remember exactly when the Punto was 1st built.

EDIT: I think the lot on the right of that photo who appear not to give a toss fit the electrics for FIAT. hehe

They cud ave been doing some better colours that day!! Looks crappy silver, grey, white!!! why not some yellows reds and blues!!

Wonder if that includes the 100,000 plus Ideas which are built on the Punto 2 platform?

BTW, the Punto 3 at 4.03 meters is longer than my 1983 Alfasud TI 105 at 3.98 meters. The Aflasud was a compact and the Punto is a subcompact...

Profits? It doesn't matter how many they sell, unless they can build them cheaper. The brand simply doesn't have the prestige value in order for dealers to charge the list price. It's the same with Citroen, with there "this car is £5000.... with £3000 cashback" offers.

Fiat's Melfi factory has just turned out the company's 6,000,000th Punto.

One of three factories building the vehicle since its launch in 1993, Melfi is likely to be the sole plant constructing the next-generation model from late 2006.

The landmark car was bought by one of its employees, Francesco D'Ariano, who was handed the keys by his big boss, Massimo Risi.

are built to last forever or have a special signature tag on em somewhere or will be collectors items and be worth hundreds of thousands in the future?

Nope, I expect they are built just as shoddily as all the others!! Sorry but I really dont like them, I first drove one in 1997 and was seriously bored within minutes (had a Cinq then) and another in 2004 and hated that one with a passion! I know lots of people love them but for me they have always been badly made and the new model cant come soon enough... so sorry to all the Punto lovers out there!

But I love my Punto, its a lil' spag just like me
