Tom and I are sat here with an alarm to fit to the car, only there seems to be a couple of bits not in the box :( And we can't get them and need to find a way around it.

Basically problem is that we need 3 diodes (effectively electronic non return valves) to prevent the car blowing up the alarm (the alarm output is linked to the indicators and if the output gets a surge, it might kill the alarm (i dunno whether its protected or not)).

Anyone got any good way around this problem?

More alarm problems.....

Tom and I are still sitting here, little further on than we were before. We have done a search of the forum and have found the location of the central locking relay, but aren't sure where the control box is - any ideas? Is it close by the relay?

Re: More alarm problems.....

have you read the PDF in the sticky in the security section.. it has the wiring locations. why are you looking for central locking relays?

Can't you just take the feeds for the central locking from the drivers door. I would have thought that the alarm has already got diodes on the main PCB. If not just buy some from RS Components, they only cost a few pence, the postage would be more than the bits.

Well, we failed most miserably but we have learned a lot! After much playing about, we left most of it and decided just to try remote locking. Except the easiest feed to find wasn't powerful enough to power it. But we've got it worked out now and a plan for next time so we will succeed! Poggy, the diodes didn't come with it, it said on the diagram that we needed them but they didn't include them and there were none to be had in a 40 mile radius of Carlisle :(

Arc you were on speakerphone and Tom is relying on you as he tells me you fitted your alarm and know what needs attached to what ;)

Right...Im back home now...christ the fog in Kendal was bad :)

I think it needs a few more things...

a. some wire (the same thickness stuff as the 15A main system feed will be fine)
b. 2 x 6A2 and 1 x 4002 diodes (or equivalents)
c. some bullet connections (for joining said diodes and flying leads into rest of system)
d. a wiring diagram for the Brava Central Locking system, Haynes have kindly omitted it.

Oh and btw, some of the wire functions are different to what Haynes says...check it with a Multimeter!!!

I escaped? I thought I just quietly slid out the front door...

It wasnt exactly a struggle...

yeah, he said he was going to come up and see whats what with your alarm - and asked if i wanted to come along. I'm working a lot at the mo, so couldnt make it. Shame, as my toolbox that lives in my boot has a bag of electronics.. which has a diode or two, or three! Along with plenty or wire, and bullet connectors!

For a 12v feed, did you try the brown wire that runs to the ignition switch? its all in that pdf!

Righto..

The 1N4002 diode is OK, can be gotten from Maplin's / RS
The 6A2 has been discontinutes, but the replacement P600D can be gotten from Maplins / RS cheaply.

I think theyre about 50p at most :D

We didn't need the wiring for the central locking, thought we were going to power the lot from the ignition? What do you reckon to Rich's idea about the fuses or should I send my dad to Maplins for the diodes?

Hmm...Im willing to dispute that, I wanna know why your airbag light has mysteriously come on otherwise (although a label by the airbag behind the glovebox said that all airbag wiring was sheathed in yellow tape).

Its not the ignition power I was thinking about, its that "main line" entry on the wiring diagram for the alarm Im thinking of...going off the Cinq, I'm gonna say its probably +12v as we thought.

As for the fuses / diodes argument, Its entirely up to you. that line needs a 10A fuse anyway, but personally, Id go for the diodes just as its what it specifies...
