Blimey, even though I no longer even own my Panda the useless dealer is giving me trouble...
13th March... handed car back they would pay finance off, assured me it would be done by end of month when payment was due.
31st March... Fiat took payment from my account!!! Rang deaer, said they had paid them!
Over next couple of weeks constantly told that payment had been made...
14th April... spike directly to the finance department at dealer, no pyment made!!!! Said they would personally call Fiat finance and that I could cancel my direct debit and they would pay me the amount taken in March.
18th April... Got my cheque, thought great.
TODAY... Fiat finance phone and say that I owe them 5k, I now have a credit score against me as dealer hasnt paid them!!!! Also, someone else is now driving my car and has been since start April, so they have a car with outstanding finance owing... nice one.

Tommorow will try and sort it, but can I get the credit mark removed??? I cant believe how much OLYMPIAN FIAT have lied ever since I bought the car and now they still keep lying.

Had a similar problem when I handed back a Vectra a few years back as the guy I dealt with at Wagon Finance (I was young , stupid and didn't know better!) told me to cancel DD - all sorted...or at least I thought it was!

I was planning on getting a mortgage so applied for my credit record from Experian and found that I had apparently got 4 months into arrears on the car I didn't own anymore! I had received the letter confirming all paid off so was a little confused to say the least. Spoke to Wagon who confirmed I had been given duff info by the guy I dealt with (was going to take it up with him but found out he had comitted suicide a fortnight earlier!).

Wagon advised that they couldn't remove the default as I was technically in arrears however I could apply to the credit reference agencies to register a 'statement of correction' which would be attached to my record and anyone carrying out a credit search would see it.

I went through the motions and registered the statement and I can safely say it fixed my record as within a couple of months later I took out a £85k 100% mortgage.

The only 'rule' with a statement of correction is that you cannot refer directly to an individual (i.e. Mr A. Salesman) and must state Olympian FIAT instead. You should also apply to both Experian and Equifax as they do not share correction data.

Hope this helps...

This is one of the things I like about cheap cars - no finance or dealers :D
