hey guys and girls, basically i just would like to know if all 8 valve FIRE engines had the same amperage alternator. is there any other cars fitted with the FIRE engine that have a higher amperage one fitted to it?

i would love to get a more powerful one for my Panda Sisley as its only 45 amp rated.

i am guessing that all 8 valve fire engines use the same alternator mounts so if there is a higher amperage one out there it would fit right in to my car.

looking at my cinq thread with the dual charging batterys the alternator struggled to keep them both topped up as it was not big enough.

the punto 1.2 8v fire has a 60amp alternator

I believe some mk2b also have a 70amp alternator

Handy in the winter - as having all the goodies on, as at the lights, the draw is too much and you end up discharging alot...

MK2 1.9 JTD has an 85amp one but body is different, not sure if you could swap the inners with a standard punto one?

hmm i was just going on the alternator.. not refitting bits around.

tbh i am not sure what size the fire engine goes up to. i know theres a 1.4 16v but does the 16 valve alternator still fit on the 8 valve mounts?

i dont know where to go to do research on it. besides actualy seeing the alternators in the flesh and seeing if they all line up and fit. i dont know what else i could do.

my idea is go down to the local scrappers and have a look at some of the punto alternators, see how many amps they can handle.

oh, i just wondered if there was any difference as starter motors from one engine size in a car wont fit another without modification.

1.9 JTD isnt a fire


when at scrappy check where belt is on crank pulley, some times cars with aircon or pas will have a longer alternator

There seem to be dozens of different alternators with differing mountings for 1.1, 1.2 8v fiat engines

Being an older car you're likely to V-belt pulleys which would need to be swapped onto a newer alternator you probably have a big fan on your alternator too which newer alternators don't have this will alter the geometry of the whole thing

Dave's suggestion of swapping internals might be your best option?

that one is 55 amp over the 45 amp the car was factory fitted with though.

if i find the 2 at the local scrappy i will have to compare them to each other.
