A Fiat 126 has come up for sale locally to me that is still registered in Poland. It still has the Polish paperwork.

Does anyone know if I would have problems registering it in the UK (Northern Ireland)? I remember someone, possibly Nuovapanda, looking into this a while back. It's a 1996 126 which would be great, but there's no point in buying it if I can't register it or if it would cost a fortune!

Thanks in advance.

If you REALLY want the car and you've got a place to keep it (garage), at most you will have to wait 19 months before driving it in the UK on just an MOT. Worth thinking about and it gives ou plenty of time to put into top condition before using it.

As Poland is the EU and the car was "used" in the EU, then I don't think you need a SVA test. You just need to get an MOT and get a UK registration number.

It is true that new cars not used prior to registration in the EU have to have an SVA test.

We bought a car in from Holland and it just needed an MOT.

slightly dodgy suggestion but how about find an absolutly w*nkered one and give the polish a new identity since you own both the cars you can just scrap the identity donor buying a basket case will problee work out cheaper that sva testing etc etc.......on a car this age youre hardly ringing it just keeping a classic on the road......(good intention) :)

Or you could just drive around in it on it's polish plates and if you get stopped by th PSNI just pretend to not speak english and wave your arms aound a lot....

And no more parking tickets either!
