Totally hypothetical ideas here but I'm wondering just how possible it would be to put an Uno Turbo/ Punto GT engine into a Bravo/a (classic)?

My ideas are based on the 1.6 bravo/a due to the 1.6 16v being a modified version of the SOHC 1.6 8v which is closely related to the 1.4 8v SOHC which was turbo charged in the Uno/Punto.

So, how possible would be it?

Researching on Google suggests that only the head and some internals were modified when making the DOHC 1.6 16v from the SOHC. The heads aren't interchangable between the engines though (can't make a 1.4 16v for example) but from what I have read, the block itself is the same externally.

Can anyone confirm if the engine mountings on both blocks are the same?

Also does anyone know what sort of power the 1.6 16v gearbox is rated to? The later, Tipo based gearbox from the Uno/punto GT may be able to be adapted to the Bravo? Or are they even the same box?

Could be an awesome little project for a 1.4 turbo Brava :slayer:

I would of thought it would just bolt in. Bravo/a uses tipo boxes, apart from 1.2. I'm Assuming Bravo/a isn't much different from Tipo where the SOHC was fitted, i expect those mounts can perhaps be used? Or as you say if the mounts on the 1.6 16v are in the same place on the block should be very easy to swap.

Or you could just buy a 2.0.

Oh yeah. Buying a HGT would be the easy option but as I said, totally hypothetical. Plus, if I were to attempt such a conversion, I would rather do it in a Brava which was never available with the 2.0 20v.

You've pretty much confirmed my theory anyway. Should be able to mount a 1.4 turbo engine in place of the 1.6 16v using the 1.6 16v mounts and it should mate straight up to the 1.6 16v gear box (y)
