I own a 2003 JTD 115bhp on 80k miles - have very recently done timing belt, replaced rear suspension bushes, replaced alternator!! - a very fiddly job which involved supporting engine from below & moving it forward a few inches with a pinch bar to allow alternator to clear driveshaft...just done rear wheel bearings on friday - these are a 'pit stop' job real easy - OEM parts bought from ebay £38 each & excellent quality, all fair wear & tear I suppose given the milage. I'm a big fan of this forum & have consulted it before all of these job. Forum has also helped me diagnose some more difficult electrical faults such as - crankshaft sensor failure & dash cluster failure - I'm sure these would have cost me If I'd had to go to a garage - (consulting a mechanic or auto elec' is unthinkable for me) - so thanks to all members. I've posted my own easy methods of doing the rear subframe bushes & removing/replacing alternator on jtd 115.

Anyway my latest challenge is that I'm getting a constant dull metallic vibration from the bottom of the engine - throughout the rev range when driving or idling & I had been thinking all possible things from a knackered engine mount at the good news end of the scale to big-end bearings at the severely bad news end of the scale. Was not easy to pinpoint this but It turns out & very thankfully - that its just a humble worn driveshaft support bearing (the bearing at the midway point on the drivers side driveshaft which is incorporated into the R.H rear engine mount) - when I grab this from below & support it the noise goes away & when I let it go - I can see it & hear it vibrate.

Anyone done one of these before?? - Just lookin for a basic method description.
