I ordered my new car at end of July and was expecting car by 1st or 2nd week of Sept.Came back from holiday 10th Sept expecting arrival of car, but was told it was still status 16

Was informed by salesman today that he had been told on Monday that factory closes for whole of August, but once production starts again that they throw them out real quick.

Is he talking rubbish, or does factory shut for a month at a time?

My car was at status 16 on screen ordered for a garage in England somewhere when I ordered it, so if it is true, it must be high on list for restart of productin

Yes, virtually the whole of Italian manufacturing closes down over August. We were in Jesolo in the last week in July and the first week in August. The first week most of the holidaymakers were foreigners; the second week half were Italians. A lot of the hotels and staff really don't like August as in the words of the manager of our hotel said...."They are not 'good' Italians."

Older members on here, pooroldcodger and myself, for instance, can easily remember when virtually all British industry, bar those companies that used furnaces, closed for two weeks. Many towns in the north still have "Wakes Weeks" which are now really a holiday in name only. During "Wakes" most of the local shops closed as well because nearly everyone in the area was in Blackpool/Scarborough/Southport/Rhyl or wherever. In the '70s and 80s many larger factories still closed for a fortnight and it's only with the closure of the biggest manufacturing plants for good that the practice has ended.

Although a month may seem excessive, I don't think Italians have Whitsun and some of the Bank Holidays we have.

It's still an archaic practice though.

Now status 40 and told today it will be 2 weeks till car arrives up in Aberdeen.

This is absolutely ridiculous , if it was not so close to arriving I would cancel my order.

I got an email from a guy at fiat saying car was built on 19th Oct and would take 7 - 10 days to arrive in country and 7 - 10 days to get up here
