i asked the question so i dnt have to race him.

You don't have to race him at all. The best way to deal with this bell end is to wait until he corners a bit too hard on his bodged springs and finishes up on his roof (shouldn't have to wait too long), then visit him in hospital and challenge him to a race - a legal track day one of course.

I'm sure we all know this but "fastest" means nothing. "fastest" at what? To failure?

A land speed breaking machine is slowish to start, very fast when running and has only one place to go ..... in a straight line and takes forever to stop!

Drag racers try to be fastest to start, hardest to pull and hopefully cross the line in a faster time ..... they don't steer either and need chutes to slow down.

Rally cars compromise overall speed for handling and grip on tight and loose surfaces, with rapid acceleration, deceleration etc. on non ideal surfaces.

Racing cars (F1, Touring, Indy) (like all the above) all ply their strengths and weaknesses to a set of circumstances specific to the "race".

It is just so obvious that there is no "fastest" unless the criteria, etc. are specified.

What makes me really chuckle is when I take our Strada Abarth 130TC out for a run. A trip round to the local retail park has all the boy races and chavs, (as soon as they hear it and see it) wanting to have a race ....... no way. That pisses them off even more.

Personally could pulp their noses with my old Fiat Uno SX I used to do motorsport in. Only 46BHP at the wheels with lowered & stiffened suspension and wider tyres, but very impressive track times at various circuits round the country. Taking these chavs on on a racetrack just to prove a point and blunt their pride would be a doddle. Wouldn't even have to beat them all ...... just be on their tail and not in their dust. But no way am I'm going to boost and then deflate their stupid egos.

There are so many factors involved (most importantly including driver ability) in any of these measures that anybody worth their weight behind the steering wheel will walk away from stupid "mine is faster then yours" challenges and games.

Me, I love my cars for what they are, what they give me, the pleasure I get from them and hopefully the complements etc. that people give me for my interest, care and love for my cars.

Your real friends, mates, club members etc. will appreciate you and your car for what you both are. The rest will get bored with their latest 'beezs knees' and move on to another abonimation of a car :)
