The emergency start procedure for the Punto is probably the same as for the Stilo as follows:

  1. Switch the ignition on (MAR position) but do not start the engine.
  2. Hold the accelerator pedal down. The engine management warning light should illuminate for about 8 seconds then go out.
  3. Release the accelerator pedal and get ready to count the flashes of the warning light.
  4. Count the number of flashes that corresponds to the first digit of the securuty code, then press the accelerator until the warning light comes on for about 4 seconds and goes off, then release the pedal.
  5. The warning light will start flashing again. After it has flashed the number of times that corresponds to the second digit of the code, press the pedal to the floor until the warning light comes on for about 4 seconds and goes off.
  6. Repeat the same process for the remaining 3 digits of the code.
  7. Rapid flashing of the warning light for about 4 seconds confirms that the procedure has been carried out successfully. The engine should start by turning the key from MAR to AVV.
  8. If the warning light stays on, turn the ignition off and repeat the procedure from step 1.
This procedure will only start the engine once. If the engine is switched off, you will need to repeat the whole procedure to start it again.

The procedure will only work if your car has an immobiliser problem that's preventing it from starting.

If you only want to do the procedure for test purposes, you will need to completely wrap the key handle with thick aluminium foil to prevent the transponder signal reaching the CODE box and starting the engine as normal.

Yes when the immboliser is active - IE it thinks it trying to nicked
(Incorrect key) the car will start like it normally does
But the immbo Stops the Fuel and Spark plugs entering the Combustion chamber

Handy if you want todo a Wet and Dry Compression testing :)

Bloody hell! Unless you're smoking a lot of crack in your garage it's far more convenient to just disconnect the TDC sensor. Even the connector is conveniently positioned on the Mk2............

First, post in the correct model section.

Second, it's fairly unlikely to be the immobiliser.

What else can you tell us? Is there a spark? Is there fuel past the injectors? Does the fuel pump prime? Does the engine turn over? Which car is it?

Did you use the ECU from the donor engine?
If so

Stick the ORIGINAL ECU from the ORIGINAL ENGINE onto the DONOR ENGINE

The Whole ECU/fusebox's/dash and cheese biscuit box in the boot are all coded together, if you break the link - they all cry to each other :(

Poor sydney - taken without a care in the world

could be worse - could have gone to france
