Read the news links to see what fate could await FIAT.

If this happens and FIAT becomes part of GM, think LANCIA will deff go, and we'll see more product sharing, i.e. like what happened to SAAB when GM took over with it's new redressed Wreck-tras! or Volvo when Ford took over, redressed Mundane-os

Although not all take overs are bad, Nissan still get to do pretty much what they want even tho Renault own them.

Although i believe GM do not want to buy FIAT because they would then be accountable to fix FIAT's finances, cheaper to pay the 3 Billion EUROS to get out of it :)

The next Punto's been developed on a Corsa floorpan :yuck: :bang: so the Mondeo-Volvo/Vectra-Saab theory has already happened to Fiat :(

Thankfully its only the floor pan tho, cos the Clio and the Micra share a floor pan, but how far removed is a 182 Cup from any Micra ;)

True, then again have you seen that Micra Touring Car concept? There's something peversely appealing about a Micra with 300bhp of V6 where the shopping normally goes

GM dont want to buy out Fiat as they allready own a loss making car company in saab, and american sales are not quite what they once were for GM. The "put option" part of GM's share is seen as a "view to buy" and Fiat are tyring to FORCE GM to buy them, but with the situation GM are allready in it could also put them in danger.

I have seen that V6 Micra go round the track at Castle Combe... Very quick and for a micra, it looked ace !!! Rear wheel drive and took most corners sideways..... :D

I wonder what the outcome will be. Should have been decided now.

Isn't FIAT developing a car jointly with some Japanese motorbike manufacturer which makes seriously underpowered tall superminis?

Yes with Suzuki to build a SUV baised on the new revision of the Ignis, will from what I read have the MJet engines as well as petrol.

If it does indeed look like this, its not bad IMO.

Fingers crossed Gm just pay up!
Two things, the next Punto is not on a Corsa floorpan, Fiat/GM both have developed a new pan which the new Punto will use followed by the Corsa.

Nissan, I have experiance with them and can say that its Renault that have the upper hand there. Nissan used to use good quality Jap made componants, now their stuff is sourced in Europe so it can be shared with Renault too. Result is that the new Micra is badly made with sub standard parts, whearas old Nissans were dull but reliable. The current Clio is on its own Renault pan, the Micra has a new pan which the next Clio will use.

The GM tie up has already shown to be bad for Fiat, who jointly own Powertrain with GM. Powertrain source engine componants, and one result of this is the new pistons in the FIRE engine which cause piston slap in cold weather. Fiat engines have always been a strong point but now we are seeing GM cost cutting. As I said, fingers crossed!
