if you need a parking sensors you cant drive so shoudnt have driving license  cant see whats wrong with useing the city button on a test tho:confused: it dont turn the steering wheel for you just makes it lighter so you still need to no how much to turn the wheels and how far to reverse ect when parking

wasnt it nicknamed the chick button originally?

personally my punto doesnt have it, new one does though doubt ill ever use it!
"Girly Button" I know cars have got heavier and tyres wider, but I'm not sure why we should need power steering. Being a boring old git I've got a list of cars I've driven that haven't had PAS:

1969 Vauxhall Viva 1159cc
1971 Vauxhall VX4/90 1975cc
1974 Vauxhall Viva 1256 cc
1975 Austin 1800 1798cc
1978 Vauxhall Chevette 1256cc
1981 Vauxhall Chevette HS 2279cc
Numerous Ford Transit and Mercedes 308 vans
Bedford TL 7.5 tonne trucks 5400cc.

There are many more such as Cortina and Corsair 2000s, in fact in the '70s it was rare for cars of 2 litre and below to have power steering at all, never mind something like a Panda with the City button.

I drove the Bedfords on the way to taking my Class 1 HGV and my instructor learnt to drive trucks before WWII that weighed 22 tons and didn't have power assisted steering.

Young people today, eh? What a bunch of Nancys.

Goes away and dons flame proof suit.

the city button is disabled over 40kph it says so in the manual it's in the programing theres a perameter for it in the examiner you can view it is most definately off at 70mph and normal asistance resumes it's all in your head:D

bear in mind when you turn the steering violently as aposed to slowly it adds extra assistance acording to speed and force that you turn the wheel with at 70mph the steering can be putting apsolutly no amps into the motor atall allowing it to be tottaly manual steering thanks to the lightness from the speed anyway and only assisting if you turn the wheel fast

and surely a self parking car has got to be law breaking as your driving with both hands off the wheel there fore not in complete control of the vehicle:confused:

:

that's what I have been trying to say. Just better explained :D

Why doesnt every other learner car or car manufacturer have a city button then?

All BSM pupils do now :p

:yeahthat:

Although I got parking sensors cos I'm lazy, not cos I can't drive. Proof is that parking sensors don't help with 30mph 'J' Turns ;)

If anything I think the city button makes my Panda harder to drive. It gets far too light and you dont get any feedback from the wheel at all. Even the standard power steering is too powerfull really. When I picked the car up the dealer showed me around the car and explained all the controls. I had already heard about the city button so when he came to it I told him not to bother. He said they call it the girlie button and I would never use it anyway.

Just a quick question I know the Panda 100hp has a sport button instead of city button. According to the Fiat website the sport button actually reduces the power steering and increases throttle response. Is this true because if so I would certainly have that on all the time.

it does exactly what the city button does but it operates the light on the dash in reverse and it has been changed to sport

the perameter in the ecu for the button is listed as city/sport depending on weather it's on or off it does nothing to throttle responce on the panda 100

turbo motors it does affect the engine and throttle for example in the mito 1.4 turbo with the dna switch set to normal if you hold 2500 rpm and switch it to dynamic the revs raise to almost 4000 without you moving your foot grande punto and 50 abarth's may be similar but with the sport button instead

I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realise that what you heard is not what I meant."

:slayer:someone thinks im right:D.
i was not saying if you have a parking sensors you cant drive i was saying if you CANT park without one you cant drive;) (i would love to have one(y))

I don't like the sensors, I have installed a camera out of sight above my number plate. It allows me to reverse to within a cock hair of anything behind me - sensors tend to not work below 30cm/12". Hell, with power steering AND reverse camera I only need a gap 12" longer than the car.

First time i bought my punto i was thinking the same, whats this City button do?, so i looked it up and found out it lightens up the steering for parking and such. Never knew punto's were this complex lol

Doh. You know I never thought of that. How silly of me.

I don't press it but inquisitive passengers do and it has been pressed by accident. I would really rather the damn thing doesn't work at all if possible. I don't need the function as I can actually drive and have managed all these years without it.

have a search, see if the city button is on its own fuse, if it is, take the fuse out. if not take out the city button, disconnect the wire from it, then replace it :)
