Currently got a Bravo 80sx, thinking about getting a new car, really like the new punto. I'm 19 in April so I'd only opt for a 1.4 at most (New shape Punto BTW) seen a few for under 5k.

The only problem is that, the 1.4 Punto has only 8v and 75BHP, is it really worth paying more insurance? I don't want to get rid of my car with 80bhp and 16v for something less powerful. I'd like to get my Bravo on a dyno, see how much of its 80bhp it has los over its (nearly) 11year lifespan. That said my Bravo pisses over everyone else 1.2 cars that some of my mates have. One of my mates had a 1.2 mk1 Clio and when that reached 100mph, it blew the cat and my other mate has a Mk 2 Clio facelift, 03 reg, and again, my car wipes the floor with his. Think I need to find someone with a 1.4 and have him a race haha

Haha as much as I'd love to drive a 1.9mjet, hell, I'd even enjoy a 1.6, spent the last 2 years in a 1.2, first year in a 1.2 Fiesta with the torque of a small child, and then in my 99 Bravo. But I'm having to think realistically, but I'm confused as to why the Punto is really under powered

Its a low power motor, for low cost insurance, in a heavy body (5 star NCAP)
which is strangled by emissions equipment....

How about a punto Mk2b sporting? You can pick some up in perfect condition and at a nice price. 1.4 16v's delivering 100bhp. It would be a nice healthy upgrade I reckon.

I hate the looks both exterior and interior of any Punto aside from the Grande, before I even think about buying the Grande I want to test drive the Astra and the Focus first.

I was in this situation just a few months ago, but im 23! but I know how you feel, funny enough I had a 1.25 Fiesta Zetec, so I know how that feels too! I spent abit more then 5k, I spent 7k and got myself a 07 Bravo 1.4 TJET 150bhp, its group 10 insurance which I thought was quite good.

The Astra wouldnt be a bad choice, but I personally didnt like the focus for the price and spec.

Spec and money wise the punto Mk2b sporting which Karbine suggested sounds like it would deffo fit the bill, they arenot to be under-estimated!

Now I'm the opposite, I don't like GP's because they don't seem like puntos anymore. When I think of Puntos I think of small hatchbacks. Although it's in the name, "grande" it's a lot bigger and just doesn't seem right
