Hey,

I have been looking for a new car seen as my '97 Peugeot 106 is getting a bit past it and i have recently been and had a look at a
'56' Reg Fiat Grande Punto 1.3 Multijet Dynamic 3dr.

Just wanted to know what they are like to live with and how prone they are to problems.

I was really impressed when i saw it and am off back on saturday to make a choice as my car has been sold and is off on friday.

Cheers,

Mayzzini

hi, i bought a grande punto 1.3 mjet gp version from new last july, i havent had a single thing go wrong with it, apart from the suspension mount thats being replaced under warranty. in every way though, its a reliable car, started every morning first time in the recent cold snap. it will consistently do 55 mpg, and thats toeing it a bit, on an economical run i have managed 65mpg!!
for a little 1.3 it has alot of poke as well, granted a bit more poke would be nicer, but its surprising what cars it will keep up with, and even beat. it also holds its own on motorways, and it feels like a sturdy car, not at all flimsy, at high speeds it will also still feel sturdy, it will cruise at 80, i mean 70 ;) no problem at all.
my car does alot of miles, iv done 10 000 in 7 months, and even now i still enjoy driving it, and will do for a long time. some other people on here have quoted problems with them, as in every car, but i suppose it depends on luck to an extent, and how you treat it (not saying anyone here mistreats their cars) but in general i think every gp owner would say it is on the whole a reliable car!!
if you have any other questions feel free to ask me :).

ps, dont consider the new punto evo, their the grandes ugly cousin lol :)

Thanks for the input, my 106 is being collected by its proud new owners in the next hour, and i have an appointment to go see the GP again tomorrow morning, and then its decision time.

im glad to hear that there reliable and are enjoyable to drive, because i am planning to do a fair few miles in it (its done 37k already and its good to know that it will go on for a while yet.

1.3 is a step up for me coming from my 106 which is 1.1, so im not used to much power so it will be a nice change.

if i get the GP tomorrow i will be sure to post a few pics after i have taken it for an extended test drive.

cheers,

Arran

If you really want an unbiased, independant opinion of the car you need to ask the question in an independant unbiased forum and not one populated by enthusiasts of the marque.
Asking a question like that in here is like going to a Man U site and asking if there are any Chelsea fans onboard. You know what the answer will be before you hit "submit" :D

Fiat products tend to be mid-range these days in the various reliabilty surveys that surface from time to time and at the lower end when it comes to dealer performance and customer satisfaction and I dont think anyone would disagree with me in this aspect. Some owners will say, "great car, never had an issue", others will say "worst car ever owned, an absolute nightmare". It all depends on the person and their expectations.

If you like the car buy it, if you dont.......well, dont. At that age its a chance you take. I believe the odds are no better or worse than you would get buying any other used car. However its highly unlikely to give you years of trouble free motoring.

Just sure you get a watertight warranty with it (y)

if your talking about Mayzinnis post, then i think he was more asking what it was like to drive, and mpg, reliability etc, rather than a 'do u like it and think i should get it' question.
but yeah, and apart from some saying it little slow, independant reviews of the car are generally (y)

edit: i think my review of it was honest and unbiased as well :)
