hi everyone, i have got a contact who said he could 'remap my car so much my clutch would literally explode'. I am going to get him to remap it alot, but so the clutch isnt in jeopardy. HOWEVER, my car is only 7 months old, and has a 3 year warranty (including 3rd year stoneacre dealer warranty). as im impatient i dont want to wait that long. but would like to know if there are any major problems that happen to the grandes within there first few years life, and if any of you think its worth doing before warranty runs out.
Another question is a mate said as its a diesel i should get it de-restricted, as this would make my 1.3 as powerful as a 2 litre almost. can anyone say what de restricting is? And if its worth doing instead of a remap?
Cheers all
Pete

it was a different person who said about a de restriction, and he seemed to think al diesels could be de restricted. what do you mean cant be done a a remap alone?

yeah, but i meant he said the de restricting would make it as powerful a 2 litre. and it doesnt need a huge turbo to be powerful a a 2 litre, if you fitted a sports clutch you could remap the engine to a huge amount more than its standard setup. it will take time (because money), but in the end i want a remap, intercooler, and gsr induction kit. can you get uprated turbos for the 1.3?

De restrict what? It has no restrictions in it ffs. Tbh your mate sounds like he doesnt have a clue. You will get 100odd bhp out a 1.3 mapped but thats not going to make it as quick as a 2 litre.

And yeah he probably could map your car so the clutch explodes but you just chunk in a shed load of fuel and say byebye to the engine and turbo aswell. Do some research for yourself instead of believing what everyone else says.

i researched de restrictions and cudnt find nothing about them, and i think he knows a fair bit more than u, he teaches it all at a college, and does it for some people. im just saying what he said, i was just getting peoples opinions on here as well. i only asked what a de restriction was, not for a f****ng spanish inquuisition.

From what he has said to you it doesnt look like it. Im not preaching saying that i know everything as i dont but i can tell you hes talking crap.

You would do well to listen to people on here as most of us are have a good knowledge of our cars and what can and cant be dont to them compared to other people. Even ones in the business. We also have nothing to make out of it so arent going to feed you crap to make you think that miracles can be worked.

yes i know, thats why i thought id ask on here first, for the reasons you stated. it sounded a bit to good to be true, but as he deals with it, and knows a hell of a lot more than me i just took his work for it. most of the stuff i have learnt for my car is from this forum. cheers anyway

if you want a bit more power from the 1.3, find a turbo from a 1.7 corsa (they fit the 1.3 corsa anyway), bigger intercooler and a remap and you will see about 120-130bhp.

I dont know if the turbo will fit, but its the same engine in the corsa and they do fit.

I think what he means by de-restrict is to allow the car to rev out past 5000 RPM, on a diesel this is suicide even if you found a way to do it. Diesel engines are not made for high revs and anything above 4700 apart from not producing any more power will likely cause damage to the engine.
As for mapping it so the clutch would explode, anyone who would even suggest that should not be let near your car!!

We have a tuning box for your car that is easy to install and will increase your power by around +17BHP and +35nm for the special forum price of £115 delivered. Our units work!
PM or email me if you need any more details: [email protected]
Thanks
Daron

See what equipment your mate is using as well.

If hes using a cheap tool from china (galletto clones etc), and some cracked software you are almost certainly looking at trouble.

Not that theres anything wrong with them, its just people who tend to really know what they are doing spend money on decent equipment, insurance etc.

Is your mate going to help you fix your car when the warranty is voided? The cost of a decent remap will be the same as getting your ECU fixed? No brainer if you ask me

that could be an option, cheers mate. does the grande 1.6 diesel have a bigger turbo as well?

cheers tmc, has anyone on here got one? that maybe something to consider.

talking about his software quality, the dyno run cost 40k, but as its a college the company donated it, im not sure what software he uses, i will find out, but being an expensive dyno, i reckon the software willl be good. bus as tmc said, if he says he could remap it so much my clutch would explode, do i want him by my car?

Check out this thread from a customer who has just installed one on his 1.9 MJet 150. https://www.fiatforum.com/bravo/215533-todays-dyno-run-chart.html
