Hi all,

I'm thinking of putting my Cinc in for scrappage ASAP. problem is I have to Tax it before the end of the month:rolleyes: I can't put it in for scrappage until the 6th of next month as I've not had it a year until then! I need the car on the road as my other car is sick.:yuck:

My plan is to simply pocket the disc when I drop the car off at the dealers to collect my new motor. Then send it back to DVLA for a refund on the remaining tax. WILL THIS WORK:confused:

Any advice / thoughts welcome

Gareth :)

I was under the impression that the car had to be taxed, insured and have a valid MOT? Cars registered as SORN are not eligible.

Have a read of this.

Not quite right - this is from the Direct Gov website so it should :)eek:) be correct!

Your vehicle

The vehicle you are trading in must:

be a car or small van weighing up to 3,500 kilograms (kg)
be registered in the United Kingdom (UK) on or before 31 August 1999
be registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) or Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) in your name
have been registered to you continuously for 12 calendar months before the order date of the new vehicle
have a UK address on the registration certificate (V5C)
have a current MOT test certificate before date of order for the new vehicle (or within 14 days of expiry at the time of order)
have a current tax disc when the order for the new vehicle is placed (or within 14 days of expiry at the time of order)
be insured when the order for the new vehicle is placed

So it doesn't need to be taxed at the time of scrappage - except it should be to drive it to the dealer......... :bang:

Just make sure the dealer knows you aren't leaving any tax on it & you'll be fine cashing it in.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Gavin. :)

As palio says
Tax it....
Then make sure you get the tax disc back as part of the deal and get a refund on the outstanding months.

I got mine back on both cars I put in against the GP last month.
But make it clear when doing the deal.
The garage will want to cash them in themselves
