Ford have less courtesy cars from my experience, however that was a few years ago. It seems thesedays customers want a courtesy car for everything...one booked a courtesy car for a bulb change, honest!

It's quite common for dealers to charge for the insurance when you have a courtesy car , though the majority will be happy for you to get it covered on your own insurance policy. Direct Line would do this F.O.C. for me so I never actually paid anything when I took my Octavias in to the dealers but I've not tried my current insco.
I don't think this is a totally unreasonable charge in general.

I have had a courtesy car for the past 5 days on my own insurance. The service advisor even rang the insurance company for me. It just goes down as a temporary policy change and I wasn't charged. The Grande Punto I had was group 4, my own car is a group 1. I am with Quinn Direct (who to be honest dont have a very good reputation)
