I have an Uno and two Panda's, all over 10 years old. The black plastic trim parts have ( due I presume, to a chemical reaction from age and exposure to the elements ) taken on a white bloom which will not wash off.

Can anyone suggest a chemical which will neutralize this white bloom please ?? White spirit, paint stripper, battery acid etc have all failed and I do not wish to abrade the surface of the plastic by using wet and dry or the like.

Please note, I am asking for something to kill the bloom not just to paint over or disguise it.
Thank you, Pete. [email protected]

I'm sorry pete, but I don't think you'll find anything to stop it. If it's the same discolouration that occurs to Bravo/a exterior plastic parts (like wing mirrors and door handles).
Though if you find a cure, let us know!

Like you say, I think it is a chemical reaction, a bleaching of the plastic's surface. I therefore think the only way to remove it would be to expose 'fresh' plastic underneath (rub it down with w&d for example - not too sure this would actually work or provide a good finish), or disguise/stain it, e.g. use a 'Back to Black' product.

I've used various 'Back to Black' products and they seem to do the trick, even if you do have to reapply frequently and buff them up hard.

i have the same problem on my cinq. i just use back to black and this does the trick, but needs constant re-applying which is a pain!

I don't think battery acid has helped the situation.
The only thing as a long term solution rather than 'back to black it' is to paint it with some interior paint, Folitec do some for about £15

As previously stated, battery acid failed to remove the bloom, it also had no effect whatsoever on the surface of the plastic.
Rgds.
