I blame Jug for this he provided a link to a Fiat WIKI and been surfing model range, just strikes me as odd that although they are same vintage as mk1 panda it appears to be dead and buried while panda is very much still kicking..
Someone was talking to me about Fiat Regatta's the other day, I didn't have a clue what one looked like, but after Googling, I found some pictures... Can't say I've ever seen a Regatta on Britain's roads in my lifetime! (Probably have, but never taken notice of it...)
I saw a very tidy Chroma parked in the old town at Aylesbury last week. Obviously looked after and in daily use. I can't remember the last one I saw before that. They were perfectly decent cars and I think were a shared platform development with Saab and Lancia, (the Thema?). The Saab may have been the 9000, we test drove one but it seemed too heavy for the available horses.
i had a Regretta some years ago, not the worst Fiat i have owned & everything worked on it..even the leccy windows.
Even with Uno Turbo MK1 alloys on it it wasnt going to win any beauty competitions. Better then the Tempra(mental) i had next though.
I saw the Chroma again today, I took a closer look after this thread popped up here. It's on a "D" plate which was 86/87 I think and it is a turbo ie. It is finished in a metallic green and was actually on the smart side of tidy, I would imagine someone loves it and has owned it for a long time.
I had a Croma turbo many years ago the engine was the legendary FIAT twin cam and was a lovely drive (when it worked) and had a great ride. They were never a popular car when new and you either got a good one or a bad one so it is no suprise that there are not many left on the road
I owned the Spanish Regatta, the SEAT Malaga 1.5GLX complete with System Porsche engine, only 85BHP but 105MPH possible in 3rd Fragile though... mate had Lancia version, the Lancia Prisma.
Regatta was well equiped, even the common 85S version but suffered annoying faults incl. cars that used to leak until you stripped the whole interior out and crawled round the floor with a torch whilst your mate was outside with a hosepipe on it... happy memories :bang:
Original Croma was cousin to Lancia Thema & Saab 9000. Croma Turbo was a screamer, Lancia Thema had same engine but with balancer shafts for extra refinement. Also Thema had a Ferrari engined version... the 8.32 :yum:
