New punto sporting

Hi i am new to the site, very nice and easy to use. I am currently thinking about buying a new sporting but havent heard much about them, my last 2 (and only 2) cars have been puntos, started with a Mk1 punto s and currently driving a Mk2 elx so it seems like the natural road to take. Has anyone here heard of many problems with them? The car dealer is pushing a punto active sport or a stilo, he seems set against the sporting for some unknown reason?

Any advice/information would be very welcome
Thanks in advance
Ian

Hi and welcome to the forum

Only thing I can think of is that he needs to sell more of the other two, not the Sporting lol

Could you afford the insurance on the Sporting? He might think thats an issue for you so is turning you toward the Active Sport

There are some common faults on Puntos such as the clutch, but ive never read any specific to the Sporting and also the new Sporting has the brand new 1.4 16v, so shouldnt really have that many problems.

Re: New punto sporting

Thanks, the insurance isnt too bad thankfully, an extra 27 euro untill the end of Jan and 1650 euro fully comp next year so that isnt a problem.

They are a nice car, test drove the demo model which is the one for sale, has everything except sat nav, only complaint is the traction control. There are not a lot of new sporting around Dublin, i have seen one, it maybe because of the 19000 euro price tag

All going according to plan i should be picking one up on Tuesday once my mind isnt changed too much

Re: New punto sporting

The Bravo/a 1.4 was 12v not 16v and about as slow as mine and ate twice as much fuel, doubt very much they could get away with it in a sporting.

No I dont think it is. This new 1.4 has 95bhp and 16v, the old Brava/Bravo engine had 80bhp and 12v.

Re: New punto sporting

the actice and active sport are plentiful in Ireland, he can sell all his new punto sportings for January.and the demo will be a registration year old.

How much is he giving you off the Sporting? it'd want to be a good few quid, at least a years depreciation. this guy is getting a demo discount and a rebate from Fiat Ireland for registering the car.

he'll also be making money on the finance if it's through the garage.

The Bravo/a 1.4 is a 12v... probably the worst Fiat petrol engine of the last 30 years...

For this reason it has had a short life, and soon the 1.2 16v replaced it...

The new 1.4 16v mounted on Punto/Stilo/Idea is totally different from it!...

Sounds all good...

But do push for big discounts I know I could have had one for around 8000 when I was looking for a car.
