So, for argument's sake, if you owned a 1999 Punto with X amount of miles on it, in perfect condition before the crash; then after the collision you should be able to buy a near identical vehicle in the same condition. Personally, I would trawl the internet sites of as many FIAT dealers as you can and print off the most expensive '99 Puntos you can find. You might also point out that it would have been the easiest thing in the world to pop into your local Casualty dept. and then put in a claim for whiplash. But as you are a person of honesty and integrity you wouldn't do that. Because of that you also expect other people, such as the insurance company to act with equal integrity and cough up.
