Bloody speedcameras!

Hey!

I was just wondering if anyone knows.. Can you get caught by a speed camera if it's on the other side?? You see, I might have been doing 50mph in a 30mph zone, it flashed, but my brother was right 5 metres or so away doing the same speed. There are no lines on my side but it did flash? Has this happened to anyone before and does anyone know anything about it?

Cheers olly : )

Yeah they are sometimes setup to do that on purpose :bang: but as long as you were on the other side facing it shouldn't come to anything (y)

Check out www.blackspot.com for more

I was definately facing towards it. Its just weird that it flashed, You see my point is, is that it must be measuring speed or something because it flashed, it needed something to set it off. I hope I havent got a fine!! : S

If its a Gatso then no.

They will flash if you got through them at high speed driving on the oposite side of the road driving towards them.

But i'm not being funny mate if you was doing 50 in a 30 and your brother was rite up your arse you both deserve more than 3 points and a £60 fine.

I don't know why but some idiots seem to forget that when it all goes wrong you could rip someones family apart weather its your own or somebody elses.

nah, they cant fine you face on, (y)
it will flash, but how many times ?
if it was only once dont worry about it! it flashes twice to do you!
but if it flashed twice, it should be ok, as i said they cant do you face on.

I think it flashed twice, But I can't really remember. Hopefully nothing will happen : S But in fairness, I shouldnt have been doing it.. But im more worries about points than money. Only had car for week : S

you its a new car and are inexperienced on how it handles and your thraping it through a 30....

Have you practiced doing an emergency stop in it yet??

Take a case not 800 meters from my house last night

this is 30 limit

Gets popcorn and awaits a grilling

generally cant do you face on due to motorbikes not having a number plate up front,

however i know of a few cases where they have prosicuted. they cant straight fine you but the pictures can be used as evidence if in the unlikely hood it goes any further,

on the brighter side dont worry bout it, although that feeling in your stomache when it flashed, REMEMBER IT and stick to 30!

Just remember that 6points = 2 year ban ( or 3) if you've held your license less than 2 years.

By the sounds of it, you're young and inexperienced. If you havent got the sense to at least slow down for a speed camera, then you've definetly got an accident coming your way very soon.

30 zones are there for a reason, built up areas. A kid walks out while you're bombing it down the road at 50 and their dead, simple as.

I was merrily on my way back from gym last night had just set off, when at random in the city centre a rabbit ran into the headlamps...I really wasn't expecting one of those less than 400 yards from northumberland street! Doing about 25 mph and was very surprised how slow car was to stop, brakes were cold and wet as i'd just set off (20 seconds earlier) no bite but the rabbit survived although if it had been anything that didn't fit under the bottom of the front bumper (like a person) it would have been on the bonnet or on the road infront lying down. My passenger was like WTF are you doing? until she saw a fluffy tail bounding out from infront of the bonnet she'd thought it was a plastic bag!

.

which going by his profile he's 17....

not just the ban but also the strong possibility of loosing your license and having it returned to provisional status which = re-sit theory test and practical test (which will be an extended test as you have had a ban)

not only that expect your insurance premium to rocket (if you can get cover at all)

Driving isn't about driving fast its about driving smooth reading the conditions, anticipating and always expecting the unexpected...

if you want to drive fast book a track day that way you can do it safely

did the traffic camera have a square or circular lens? if square its a gatso and dont worry

if it had a large, the smaller lens in the middle its a truvelo and these take pics from the front. if it was a grey box its a specs camera not sure about these. truvelo's have a purple uv color flash aswell

sam:)

ive set a speed camrea goin towords it, if its a gatso camera (like below) you will be ok, just don't go round doin it to offten and keep your speed down they are there for a resion most of the time (y)

the cameras above (gatso) cant be used for taking photos forward as they use a normal bright flash which would be dangerous. (hence the reason forward facing cameras have IR flash which you more then likely wont see)

speed cameras can false trigger. there is one on a hill near me that has gone off a few times when riding towards it on my bike. (within speed limit) and it really scared me the first time, been flashed in my face from nowhere!

ALSO they can false trigger from behind as my dad found a few weeks ago. just coming to a stop in traffic on a 40mph road. dad was pretty close behind the car in front going 10-15mph when the camera flashed twice!
