I've just been out driving the girlfriends 2001 Brava 1.6 ELX and heard her front brakes grind like a flour mill. They look pretty clean but there's 2-3mm step between the sweep and the rest of the disc.

Phoned National Tyres (only place that answered the phone this late on a Sunday) and they quoted £171 +vat

Seems pretty steep so I was wondering what if I should replace them with something els, maybe even some performance brakes. Any ideas on good Brava discs and pads and how much it would probably cost to buy them and get them fitted.

In fact, how hard is it to change Brava discs and pads? I'd maybe even have a go myself if it's not too much of a problem.

Cheers

Ok I'll leave them well alone.

What about the price? Is that about right for a new set of front discs and pads?

I've put TAROX 'Sport Japan' discs and TAROX pads on my Bravo which cost about £130. Got them from Motorsportworld.

They are awesome as i can stop on a pin point and also look the part too. I would definatly recommend them.

I wouldn't attempt to change them yourself unless you have done this before. Well let face it, quite important as stops your car!!

I took mine to RSR wheel and tyres which cost me £30. Well worth it.

if u dont ever change them cos uve not done it before, then you'll never do it. Its not a taxing job, just make sure the back of the disc and hub/spacer etc is spotlesly clean before reassembling it all.

it should take around 15mins to do each side..

Yeah, definatly will do.

I've got the Hammerite in silver but just need to make the time. Not sure about painting the drums in silver or black, or just leaving them?

I've been meaning to do it for months!!
