THE most reliable cheap car is :-

Mitsubishi Carisma 1.9 DI.D Made in Holland. Platformed from the Volvo S40.

Boring and characterless yes, but totally reliable.

Part exed mine with 76k trouble free miles on it in 3 years. Nothing went wrong. Got £3k for it against my GP.

Even JD Power agree. 3rd as I saw it away back. and for a car 5 months old with 5k on the clock costing £7.5k I would never complain.

Stay away from the petrol ones tho....

Shame they dont make them anymore.

Majority rules.

No use just quoting a few cars, need a huge population of vehicles to make robust statements. I don't think the people on here is a big enough sample or are objective enough.

100% agree about french rubbish, I had a C2 furio and a C2 VTR, two worst buys I ever made, love my Panda 100 though. I will never buy french again (my daughter has a megane that spend more time in the garage than on the road too.)

Hi, new poster here!

I must say, ive just got a Fiat Seicento Sporting, which replaced my AMAZING Peugeot 205, and i must admit I preferred the Peugeot.

Okay so it didnt have anything fancy like electric windows or central locking, AND it had a manual choke, but it was a much better drive than the Fiat. Fiat's pedals are to close together for my liking, first time I drove it it felt like i'd never driven before! Im not going to complain to much about it though, as it was sold to me from my mum, so I got a good deal.

There was nothing wrong with the 205, at 18 it had only done 73000 miles, and only had one previous owner. It's only problems were that it had needed a new exhaust gasket, (i believe thats right!) which cost £2.76, and a new clutch cable. It has passed every MOT first time aswell. it was just time to move on.....

I wouldn't say French cars are rubbish, etc, it just depends on how good you take of your car, okay everyone has different opinions but ruling out an entire country's car manufacturers seems a bit drastic!
